  • Next November 6th at 7:30 a.m. (Central Mexico time) a program showcasing the charms of the Riviera Nayarit will be broadcast to over 100 million homes around the world.

As a result of the public relations efforts of the Riviera Nayarit Convention and Visitors Bureau (CVB) there was a television program coordinated in June that will air this coming November 6th at 7:30 a.m. (Central Mexico time) on the Discovery Channel.

The Savvy Stews, Gailen David and Bobby Laurie produced the program with special guest Jessica Reyes, host of The Daily Buzz; the show already aired on September 9th on www.savvystews.tv.

The success of the show led to the Discovery Channel broadcasting it out to over 100 million homes around the world, which will now have the chance to see the charms of the Riviera Nayarit.

The program’s producer, Patricia Kay Broughton, was thankful and satisfied with the results. She was especially interested in Huichol art, the Islas Marietas and Entre Amigos in San Pancho.

“The trip to the Riviera Nayarit was a complete success, thanks above all to the support of the CVB, their knowledge of the destination and their ability to make additional arrangements and find a way to get the film crew what they needed,” commented the producer.

During their tour they took part in ecotourism activities, enjoyed a Huichol art class, got to know the legendary Tail of the Whale hole at Punta Mita and visited Nuevo Vallarta, Bucerías, La Cruz de Huanacaxtle, the Islas Marietas, San Pancho and, last but not least,  Sayulita.

The Savvy Stews website has over 700 thousand unique visitors per month but over 1 million total visits per month; they also have 21 thousand followers on Facebook and 43 thousand on Twitter.

The program focuses on travel and tourism, positioning itself as a trendsetter for travelers. It was an excellent decision to bring this TV production to the region thanks to its relationship with Discovery Channel’s “Destinations America” and its worldwide broadcast coverage.

Aside from being a spectacular beach destination Puerto Vallarta is also an excellent place to learn all about the flora and fauna of the Mexican Pacific.

The Puerto Vallarta’s El Salado Estuary  is a protected area, home to countless animals and plants protected by Mexico’s Secretary of the Environment and Natural Resources. It is considered an Urban Estuary, as it is located right in the middle of the city.

The estuary mainly protects the mangroves and marshes –it is also home to various aquatic specimens as well as underwater and thorn forest vegetation.

Puerto Vallarta’s El Salado Estuary  is permanently connected to the Pacific Ocean by a natural channel that flows into the bay. These characteristics make it the ideal habitat for birds, mammals and reptiles.

Experts have identified over 100 species of birds, 29 amphibians and reptiles and 10 species of mammals as well as invertebrates and fish here. Among the reptiles you’ll find the green iguana, the garrobo and the river crocodile. Some of the other animals one can observe are mammals such as raccoons and opossums; you can also identify populations of fiddler crabs and stone crab.

Best of all, you can visit El Salado and see all of its inhabitants daily (except for Sundays). Tours led by a biologist aboard “La Aventurera” boat will explain to you all about the animals and different mangroves in this ecosystem. If you’re adventurous, you will be surprised how close you can get to the crocodiles!

At the end of the tour you will have the opportunity to see the whole area from above in the observation tower. The tours last two hours and is offered three times a day.

For more information visit the El Salado’s information page.

Four reporters and a photographer visited the area, accompanied by the Regional Director of the Central and Eastern European office of the MTB; their published material is expected to generate millions of impressions in the different sectors of their previously selected audience.

The Vallarta-Nayarit joint promotional campaign spearheaded by the Mexico Tourism Board (MTB) included an October FAM trip to Puerto Vallarta and the Riviera Nayarit for the Polish press.

Vicente Salas, the Regional Director of the Central and Eastern European office of the MTB, also attended the trip, which was coordinated by the Riviera Nayarit and Puerto Vallarta convention and visitors bureaus.

Four reporters and a photographer enjoyed the visit, which was titled “Fall in Love With the Mexican Pacific.” The media was selected in order to reach specific sectors of the 36 million inhabitants of Poland.

Interia is the largest radio station in Poland and also has a very popular website, with about 150 thousand unique monthly visitors at www.interia.pl, plus another 130 thousand using their mobile application. The have a total audience of 12.3 million people per month.

The website www.gazeta.pl is considered the most important regional news source in Poland, visited by approximately 12 million readers per month.

The newspaper, Gazeta Wyborcza, sends out over 300 thousand daily papers and has approximately 4 million readers per week in Poland. In its 25 years of existence this medium has positioned itself as an important opinion leader both socially and politically.

All Inclusive is a magazine aimed at a high-income audience that prints 17 thousand bimonthly copies.

These public relations efforts seek to make an impact not only in Poland, but also across borders, thanks to the ample coverage generated by Vicente Salas in 10 European nations including Germany, Switzerland and Austria, markets that—along with Poland—already send visitors to the region.

There are, in fact, already charter flights in place that travel during the winter from Poland to the Mexican Caribbean, which makes them tourists that could potentially choose to go instead to the Mexican Pacific in search of something different.

XX FGI low

Decade number two rings in with 29 participating hotels and restaurants, over 30 chefs from four continents, and new and improved events to welcome over 20 thousand attendees from November 13-23 to Puerto Vallarta, the Riviera Nayarit and Tepic.

Once the announcement was made during the press conference held at the XX International Puerto Vallarta, Riviera Nayarit and Tepic Gourmet Food Festival (FGI, by its acronym in Spanish), considered the grandest and oldest of its kind in Mexico, the renowned “Three Musketeers”—Thierry Blouet, Heinz Reize and Roland Menetrey also announced that they were ready for the challenge.

The second decade of the FGI will run from November 13th through the 23rd this year with the participation of 29 hotels and restaurants and more than 30 guest chefs from 4 continents and over 10 countries. Most of them are from Mexico, though this year for the first time there will be two chefs from India.

“Everyone’s excited and we have a great program to celebrate the 20th anniversary,” said Chef Thierry Blouet. “We have more participants, more guest chefs and more events that are fun, mature and professional. The most important part, though, is that there is a deep, unlimited desire to continue to hold this event.”

“We have no clue how far this festival can go because food enters the stomach and lifts the spirits,” added Chef Heinz Reize. “We’re so proud of these past 20 years, because they have triggered amazing culinary feats. There are so far 490 chefs who have visited us from every part of the world, giving us some amazing feedback through the years.”

Art, culture and sport will also form part of this culinary event, which will have theme nights instead of chefs’ tables in a bid to make them more special and more fun.

The grand opening will see the presence of all the guest chefs, an innovative moment for this event, which will also boast over 30 vineyards in action. There will also be a polo tournament at the still-closed La Patrona Polo Club.

picks5-1 DiaDeLosMuertos

Día de Muertos is one of the most iconic Mexican traditions because of the whole ritual around this date, November 2. There are different events around Puerto Vallarta, showing locals and visitors the mysticism behind this celebration.

The Day of the Dead celebrations can be traced back to more than 3,000 years to indigenous cultures such as the mayas, purepechas, totonacas and mexicas. The ritual that originated the celebration of this day took place in the ninth month of the mexica solar calendar about the beginning of August and was celebrated for an entire month. The celebrations were headed by the goddess “Mictecacíhuatl” (Lady of Death), and her husband “Mictlantecuhtli” (Lord of the Land of the Dead).

Children in Mexico are taught from an early age that death is part of their culture and nature, and start already in kindergarten working on crafts and learning activities to commemorate this date.

One way of celebrating this day is the building of the traditional altars or shrines of the dead, an offering dedicated to a loved one, with all their favorite foods and drinks. It is believed that the dead return on this day to be with the living and enjoy everything they used to when alive.

Celebrities from around the world also tend to be topics of altars by those who admired their work or were influenced by it.

One of funniest ways to celebrate this day, are the calaveras (skulls), consisting of allusive rhymes, describing interesting habits and attitudes or funny anecdotes of the dead, using the best of Mexican wit to create the best rhyme or poem. What also makes this day very special is to eat Pan de Muertos, sweetened soft bread shaped like a bun, often decorated with bone-like pieces.

The UNESCO honored this indigenous festivity Day of the dead as a Masterpiece of the Oral and Intangible Heritage of Humanity at a ceremony held in Paris, France on November 7, 2003.

In Vallarta this day is celebrated with various activities in several shopping centers around the city, schools at all levels have contests in altar building and rhymes. Around City Hall there are exhibitions of altars around the building, where you can enjoy Mexican creativity and take pictures of these pieces of art.

Contrary to what many would expect from a day celebrating the dead, it is a day full of colors, smells and tastes to be enjoyed around family.

Starting November 1st through March 28th Lo de Marcos will host an open-air market, or tianguis, selling organic produce and arts and crafts to visitors. Sayulita and La Cruz de Huanacaxtle already have their own markets, held on Fridays and Sundays, respectively.

The Picturesque Villages of the Riviera Nayarit are preparing for high season: Lo de Marcos, for example, is inaugurating its very own tianguis, or marketplace, offering art and fresh organic produce to attract both tourists and locals.

Starting November 1st through March 28th, every Saturday will see the main street turned into a marketplace from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m., where people from the different communities around the Riviera Nayarit will be displaying their wares.

The golden rule is that everything must be artisanal, organic, made by hand and prepared using only natural products, seeking to raise the bar on the traditional tianguis. The vendors will be selling food, Huichol art, silver, clothing, accessories, music and much more.

Armando Contreras, one of the organizers, commented on his work together with Claudia Curtis bringing this new project to life. They hope it will be an ongoing event for many years to come.

“We want to attract more people to Lo de Marcos to bring in business and have that income stay in the area,” said Contreras. “People from all over will be here to take part in the marketplace, including Tepic, San Pancho, Sayulita and La Peñita, among others.” For more information visit https://www.facebook.com/LoDeMarcosTianguis.

Sayulita and La Cruz de Huanacaxtle have been holding their own tianguis marketplaces since 2010; they report they’re ready for the high season.

The Mercado del Pueblo at Sayulita is held every Friday from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. from November through April. It’s located on Mirimar Street on the northern end of town. Click here for the official page: https://www.facebook.com/pages/Mercado-del-Pueblo/108731729164555.

La Cruz de Huanacaxtle celebrates its Sunday Market every Sunday starting the first weekend in November; this tianguis is located at the Marina Riviera Nayarit. Click here for the official page: http://www.alllacruz.com/la-cruz-sunday-market.
