bettyThe Chef has participated in 13 events just in 2014, during which she champions the region’s cuisine, and has seven more scheduled before the end of the year. Since she began in 2008 she has participated in 50 events.

Gastronomy is a natural ally for any destination’s tourism promotion—thus Chef Betty Vázquez’s importance as the Gastronomic Ambassador of the Riviera Nayarit. Every year she participates in different events around the world, tirelessly promoting the destination with her timeless “taste of the sea.”

Since 2008 and in collaboration with the Riviera Nayarit Convention and Visitors Bureau she has attended more than 50 events representing the region’s cuisine, including festivals, conferences, gastronomic presentations and many others.

In the intervening years she has increased the number of promotional activities to the point that this year she has already participated in 13 activities, with another seven still on her calendar before year’s end.

Betty, a native of Nayarit, is convinced that gastronomy conquers travelers. She’s very aware of her responsibilities and carries with her the delights of millenary recipes and tastes, because she knows that the culture of a state rich in nature and flavors will remain in the gustatory memory of tourists.

“To be an ambassador is to carry with me the essence of my land to the far reaches of the world; those who savor the taste of Nayarit are immediately transported to our destination. Their palate is conquered and they want to travel and experience the marvels of our destination for themselves,” said the Chef.

Her extraordinary vision allows her to identify the permanent traditions, because the “essence of serving and enjoying life via the palate is a top priority,” thus her commitment to strengthening the culinary tourism in the region.

“My challenge is to conquer palates simply, with love, delicately but with prudence, firmly and with determination, with talent and with humility, but above all, with passion for my work,” emphasized Vázquez.

The Riviera Nayarit CVB began working with Betty in 2008 and by 2010 had named her their gastronomic ambassador. After having achieved second place in the famous Iron Chef program during the Hot & Spicy Festival in Toronto, Canada, the Secretary of the Exterior included her on the list of top chefs of Mexico.

“The relationship with the CVB includes a long history of communication and commitment, we’re on the same boat and it’s very exciting to see we’re all rowing in the same direction. We know we have a fantastic, magical destination rife with talent, flavor and landscapes… This is a relationship that brings us together, that strengthens us and generates the energy needed to achieve grand goals,” she added.

The celebrations will begin on Thursday, September 25th at 7 pm, with "The Expression is in Vallarta" - the unveiling of a pictorial display in the interior hallways of City Hall, followed by a wine reception. Free admission.

coral-leaving-vallarta 1While I am very sad about Odile's destruction of Cabo, I was also very excited to hear that cruise ships are being diverted to Puerto Vallarta.

This morning I watched the Coral Princess enter the Bay of Banderas at 6am, all lit up and beautiful. As she left this evening, she tooted her horns. A familiar and welcome sound.

The ship set sail on Tuesday from Los Angeles and was originally scheduled to arrive in Cabo San Lucas but changed its itinerary due to damage caused by Hurricane Odile in Cabo.

Puerto Vallarta will exchange rings with the Coral Princess in a small ceremony attended by local officials, port authority and representatives of the tourism-business sector. The ceremony is traditional to welcome first-time arrivals of cruise ships at a port.

September was scheduled to welcome four cruises in Puerto Vallarta, however due to Hurricane Marie and Hurricane Odile, two cancellations took place. The Coral Princess was not originally scheduled to arrive in Puerto Vallarta and the final arrival for September will be Monday, September 29, leaving Puerto Vallarta one less arrival than scheduled for the month.

An estimated 40 cruises are considering skipping Cabo in their itinerary and replacing with additional stops or port time with Puerto Vallarta while Cabo cleans up from Hurricane Odile.

Puerto Vallarta is one of Mexico’s leading tourism destinations popular with North American visitors for its picturesque Banderas Bay, colonial center and lush Sierra Madre mountains that surround the port of call. Today this world-class destination is a top choice amongst cruise lines for its wide array of activities, great weather year round and the calm and protected waters of its bay, one of the largest bays in Mexico extending over 62 miles of pristine coastline.

Coral Princess’ passenger will be challenged with choosing amongst the many offshore excursions on offer upon their arrival in Puerto Vallarta– from shopping at Galerias Vallarta across the street from the Marina or strolling around the historic downtown area bordered by a 6-mile long Malecon (boardwalk) home to hundreds of fine art galleries, jewelry shops, arts and crafts markets, tequila stores and over 360 restaurants. International visitors can receive a tax refund for certain goods they purchase in Puerto Vallarta before they board the ship.

cda 03Inspired by the book titled “Sabores de Nayarit” by Alondra Maldonado

This next October 16th, a spectacular wine pairing dinner will take place at Café des Artistes, a poetry and tribute to the traditional Nayaritan cuisine, a menu With the flavors of Nayarit designed by Chef Thierry Blouet and inspired by the book titled “Sabores de Nayarit: tierra ardiente, cuna de valientes” by Alondra Maldonado, who concentrated all the traditions and culinary rites of Nayarit in one great volume, until this book, the only way to get these recipes was to pass it from generation to generation.

“I was inspired by the book “Sabores de Nayarit” for the creation of these great tipical Nayaritan dishes my style, where the flavors of cumin, pepper, cinnamon, cloves, coriander, lemon, onion, among others are highlighted, a perfect combination without doubt, between the dishes and the wine pairing by Casa Madero, one of the great mexican winehouses” – Thierry Blouet 2014
