The number of user data requests made to Facebook by the Mexican government rose in the first half of the year, according to figures from Facebook's Government Request Report.

The government sent 170 requests, up 118%, for information on 267 accounts, up 110%, compared to the same period last year. Facebook responded with data to 50.6% of these requests, an increase of 37%.

"We scrutinize every government request we receive for legal sufficiency under our terms and the strict letter of the law, and push back hard when we find deficiencies or are served with overly broad requests," Chris Sonderby, Facebook deputy general counsel, said in a press release.

Mexico ranked fourth in Latin America in terms of user data requests, behind Brazil (1,307 requests), Chile (307) and Argentina (254).
