SEAPAL Vallarta says registration meetings in El Aguacate and Ojo de Agua have concluded for a rainwater-harvesting program that will provide equipment at no cost.
Puerto Vallarta’s Nidos de Lluvia program will benefit 118 households in rural areas and three schools in the municipality, according to SEAPAL Vallarta. The water utility said residents and students at the selected sites will receive, free of charge, a system for collecting and storing rainwater for everyday activities.
SEAPAL Vallarta reported on August 6, 2026, that beneficiary-registration meetings had concluded in the communities of El Aguacate and Ojo de Agua. The meetings were attended by SEAPAL Vallarta General Director Carlos Ruiz and staff from Jalisco’s State Water Commission (CEA), the utility said.
The program has the backing of Architect Luis Munguía, according to SEAPAL Vallarta. The source does not identify the three schools or specify when installation of the systems will begin.
A Nido de Lluvia is a rainwater-harvesting system designed to collect water falling on a home’s roof. SEAPAL Vallarta said gutters direct the water through filtration and into a cistern with capacity of up to 2,500 liters. A pump then moves the water to a 1,100-liter rooftop water tank, providing each household with about 3,600 liters of storage capacity.
