A Symbol of Love for Women in Puerto Vallarta
Since December 5th, 2018, the Feminicides Memorial in Jalisco was inaugurated by the United Families against Feminicides in Jalisco, with the motto "Because we have memory and we do not forget." Above all, it stands as a tribute to Lupita, Iris, Alexia, Liliana, Daniela, and all the women who have fallen victim to feminicides.
The structure is made of metal in the form of a Catholic Cross, symbolizing faith and hope that such atrocities never happen again. The park where it stands was named the Women's Park and has become a gathering point for initiating demonstrations and mobilizations led by women and social activists.
On April 4th, the structure was mysteriously "disappeared" from the Women's Park, the Feminicide Victims Memorial in Puerto Vallarta. Human Rights defenders in the region searched throughout the city until they discovered that it was the government itself who had removed it. On August 15th, 2022, the Municipal Government reinstated the Cross structure, and the Mayor offered apologies, vowing not only to protect the structure and the memorial for the victims of feminicides but also pledging to work towards eradicating these deplorable acts from the Municipality.
Today, the memorial stands tall in the same park, inspiring a growing number of women to persist in their fight for justice and protection for themselves, their daughters, and all women.
