Free Sterilization Campaign for Pets.

The Department of Health of the State of Jalisco has launched a program offering free sterilizations for dogs and cats. On the 26th, 27th, and 28th of July, a significant number of dogs and cats were attended to at the Pitillal Delegation from 9:00 am to 2:00 pm.

Pet owners brought their dogs and cats, ensuring they fasted for 12 hours and were in good physical health, and had been bathed. Pets under 3 months old and female animals that had given birth within the last 2 months were not eligible for the procedure.

It is crucial to emphasize that sterilization helps prevent uterine infections and breast cancer, which are fatal in approximately 50% of dogs and 90% of cats. Sterilizing pets before their first heat cycle offers the best defense against these diseases. Neutering provides significant health benefits for males as well, including preventing testicular cancer if done before six months of age.

Intact male pets may go to great lengths to find a mate, such as digging up the yard or escaping from home for a couple of days. However, neutered dogs and cats direct their attention towards their human families. On the other hand, unneutered pets may mark their territory by spraying strong-smelling urine throughout the house. Many aggression problems can be prevented through early neutering.

The previous campaign was a resounding success, and we hope the upcoming one will be just as well-received. We encourage you to consider sterilizing your pet and provide them with a better future.
