Southeastern Nayarit has two outstanding towns with uncommonly beautiful natural scenery.

“The greatest experience” is the phrase that best describes the Canopy River Expedition. If experience is understood as a derivative of having truly lived, believe me this is living life at 100%; it is feeling truly alive in every sense of the word, all in connection with nature.

The expedition began with a warm welcome from the team, who kindly provided us the basic instructions for experiencing the journey. Once we were ready, we got on the first zip line. That is where you begin to feel your heart jumping into your throat, but even beating heart is eclipsed by the majestic landscape, nearly 120 meters high in the Sierra Madre Occidental Mountains. It is one of the sensations closest to flying, like swinging from one mountain vine to another. That is how this phenomenal experience begins. Feeling part of nature and more alive than ever is completely inevitable.

Once you start breathing again, there are more zip lines alternated by hikes in the rainforest and hanging bridges, leading up to the free fall rappel where you will feel your heartbeat spike again. Let out the rope to descend and control the speed of your fall. It is a very rewarding experience to step back onto solid ground and say, “I did it!”

And when you think the fun’s about over, it’s time for an extreme zip line into the Cuale River. It is very refreshing after so much activity to feel the cool waters and hear the rushing river, going down the river on inflatable rafts and ending up with a pleasant mule ride back to the starting point.

If you want to live the greatest experience, the Canopy River adventure is the place to do it; adventure is waiting for you. I am anxiously awaiting the chance to do it all over again.

Puerto Vallarta is a popular holiday resort on the Pacific coast of Mexico. Traditionally inaccessible for Britons, but is now in range with direct flights The Marietas Islands, directly to the west, were once used for test bombings

The Marietas Islands have been described as the world’s most idyllic bomb site.

As I emerge from crystal water onto the much whispered about ‘Hidden Beach’, I’m inclined to agree.

Here I am, mere miles away from Puerto Vallarta, on Mexico's west coast - but I could not feel further removed from this all-singing holiday resort.

The Islas Marietas, to use their Spanish name, were first formed centuries ago due to volcanic activity and have never been inhabited by man. Taking advantage of their isolation, in the early 1900s the Mexican government used them to conduct military testing.

When walking along the narrow streets, you will start to get the sensation that everyone knows each other; you will be enraptured by the many traditional homes with intricate façades, handicraft shops and cozy restaurants serving all kinds of delicious dishes.

This inviting warmth will follow you as you head to the beach, where it is common to see groups of families, friends and couples enjoying the tranquility of this destination as they play in the sand, enjoy some delicious grilled fish in one of the thatched-roof hut restaurants lining the shore or cool off with a refreshing drink.

Chacala has many stories and anecdotes to share. Discovered in 1524 by the Spanish captain Francisco de Cortés de San Buenaventura, the beaches of Chacala have welcomed visitors of all kinds from Dutch pirates to Father Kino, evangelizer that journeyed to his various missions from this coastline.

On a tour of the beaches of Chacala, you will notice interesting sights such as the giant tree that was inhabited for a while by a woman determined to protect it from being cut down, or perhaps a family watching the ebb and flow of the waves as they wait eagerly to catch some tiquiliches, a type of crustacean similar to shrimp that is swept ashore by the waves and is used as a main ingredient in a traditional regional dish.

Las Cuevas, Chacalilla and la Caleta are the main beaches of this destination. Las Cuevas is known for its strong waves, Chacalilla is met with calmer waters and la Caleta is the ideal spot for surfers. Here, you can stay overnight in charming ecological boutique hotels with spectacular views of the ocean as well as spa services. You can also spend the night in one of the local homes rented out to tourists. And as if that weren’t enough, in 2002 Chacala was named a Gallery Town for its wide variety of birds such as magpies, pelicans, seagulls and herons, just to name a few. So don’t forget your camera, for each moment in Chacala will be a memorable one.

Destiladeras is one of those beaches that may be popular, but it’s still a place where you can truly get away from the wandering musicians, the itinerant vendors and even the restaurants, since there are only two palapas serving fresh seafood, cold beverages plus lounge chair and umbrella rentals.

In order to get to Destiladeras you’ll have to take Federal Highway 200; it’s just five minutes from La Cruz de Huanacaxtle or 20 minutes from Nuevo Vallarta, but you have to walk down the mountain on a little trail to reach the beach.

Before you walk down, take a minute to drink in the view and take a few pics. The cliff is a fantastic vantage point for panoramic vistas of the ocean. On your way back, pause for a shot of the sunset—it’s breathtaking!

Once you’re on the beach you can choose to be close to any of the two palapas or strike out on your own away from the few people that will be there. Head north and take your umbrella, beach chair and towels; we also suggest a small cooler, snacks, a bag for your trash, plenty of sunscreen and the desire to spend an entire day relaxing to the beat of the sounds of nature, the caress of the ocean breeze and the music of the waves.

If you’re feeling energetic, try your hand at boogie boarding, paddle boarding or kayaking—if you have the equipment. Otherwise, live in the moment and take a long walk along this endless beach. Not up to that, either? Well kick back, work on your tan and enjoy the view of the infinite ocean. If you’re looking to get away from it all, Destiladeras is definitely the place to go.

More than 250 cars and about 1,500 people will come together at the Marina Riviera Nayarit in La Cruz de Huanacaxtle on Sunday the 31st; on the afternoon of Saturday the 30th there will be a parade departing from the roundabout across the way from the El Tigre Golf Course.

The romantic zone of Puerto Vallarta has become one of the iconic places of Banderas Bay, is the site most of the tourists go whenever they visit Vallarta-Nayarit; Although they have been there, they tend to return.

It includes what many know as old Vallarta, which is the central part, where is El Malecón, Olas Altas, the famous Los Muertos Beach, and the part where many enjoy the picturesque city.

For lovers of gastronomy, in the romantic zone of Puerto Vallarta restaurants of all kinds of food, Brazilian, Argentine, Mexican, among others.

There are also bars, art galleries and of course the famous market of the Rio Cuale, where you can appreciate the local handicrafts. In the market of the Cuale River memories are to give to the family, from a bracelet or keychain to a picture of the beautiful Puerto Vallarta.

The romantic zone of Puerto Vallarta is currently being renovated to generate a greater attraction to tourists. Not long ago, the playa Los Muertos pier was reopened in 2013. With a completely modern infrastructure, the evenings is adorned with colored lights that stand out among the darkness of the sea, becoming the perfect place to live the romance of Puerto Vallarta.

If you don't even know the romantic zone of Puerto Vallarta, on your next visit you don't forget to ask for it, it is very easy to reach, just search the Malecon in Puerto Vallarta (another icon in the city) and you'll be very close, a walk by the sea watching the sunset will make you sigh and I bet that you fall in love with as they always returning.

New Beginnings Mexico is volunteering to help feed the less fortunate who live near the dump outside Puerto Vallarta.

"Pickers," men, women and young people, sort through the garbage hoping to find something to sell, use, or even eat.

Every Tuesday and Thursday, volunteers come to help the New Beginnings foundation serve hamburgers or hot dogs to the families living near the dump. While the guys grill the burgers, the women chop onions and tomatoes for the salsa. Getting everything ready for the assembly line. It's an efficient process, developed to feed up to 140 people. This may be the only meat they get during the week.

Other volunteers bring games for the children to play while the food is cooking. This is sort of a picture version of Bingo using stones for chips.

After lunch, some of the children paint, and some paint each other!

Janet Stevenson is teaching the women at the dump to make jewelry so they can help support their families. Their creations are sold at the Farmer's Market and several other venues in Puerto Vallarta. The jewelry is organized and labeled so each woman receives payment for her handiwork.

Despite the heat, the volunteer crew works on finishing more homes. All houses built by New Beginnings now have concrete floors. No more living on mud during the rainy season.

A new community center for church services and classes is underway.

New Beginnings is always looking for volunteers to help with the construction and food services and also welcomes "intentional volunteers" such as doctors, dentists and teachers.

A press release detailing the celebrities who had visited the area was sent out through the PR agency hired by the Riviera Nayarit CVB in the UK to help promote the Vallarta-Nayarit campaign; it lead to a preliminary count of over 11 million impressions.

Celebrities’ visits to the region were tapped by the public relations agency retained by the Riviera Nayarit Convention and Visitors Bureau (CVB) in the UK to entice the British market and promote the Riviera Nayarit and Puerto Vallarta.

The press release sent out by the agency compiled a list of the stars that have visited the region and was published by five British media with followers in other European communities. Taking into consideration the number of unique monthly visitors of these sites we can estimate a preliminary figure of more than 11 million impressions.

These media publish topics such as travel, luxury, lifestyle, real estate, finance, technology, culture, gastronomy, etc. The list (with number of unique monthly visitors) includes: Female First (2,800,000), Luxury Travel Magazine (28,788), EIN News (2,056,659), Easier (11,964) and Veooz (6,355,847).

The agency’s work was made possible thanks to the funding extended by the Government of the State of Nayarit to the joint Vallarta-Nayarit campaign; the Riviera Nayarit CVB earmarked part of this budget to help promote the new flights from Manchester and the UK operated by wholesaler Thompson and TUI airlines.

The English market is vast and its healthy economy creates tourists with deep pockets. Celebrities are trendsetters and Europeans tend to follow their lead.

The list of personalities that have visited the area and have helped entice new visitors includes the Kardashian sisters, Jessica Simpson, Joe Jonas from the Jonas Brothers, Alessandra Ambrosio and Bella Thorne, among others.
