Oman RiaYavuzalp, Turkish Ambassador in Ethiopia, informs that a very important meeting of high level Turkish and Africans officials will be taken place in a few days.
At this meeting they plan to determine the projects that will be implemented during the next five years and that are within the agreements reached at the Turkish-African Summit which took place last November in Equatorial Guinea.
The second Africa-Turkey Summit took place on November 19, 2014 in Malabo, The Equatorial Guinea capital city; a place which does not seem appropriate for this kind of summit, since most of the Turkish activities in Africa general occur in regions which are mainly Moslems; however, countries with emerging economies are gearing towards Africa. Given such competition, as for as resources are concerned, the old world map might be about to change.
A first Turkish school was opened in Malabo. This is just only the beginning. During a four day visit of a delegation of the Secretary of Finance to Ghana, Nigeria and Equatorial Guinea, the press published that Africa wants to open more Turkish schools, and that children who attend these schools today, could be the Ministers or Presidents of tomorrow.
The interest of Turkey on Equatorial Guinea is comprehensible. This small country is the third biggest oil producer in Africa (after Nigeria and Angola), and it is also a brilliant example of an emergent Africa.
Equatorial Guinea, again, the only Spanish speaking African country, has also been a Francophone member since 1989.
On July, 2014, Equatorial Guinea became a member of the Group of Portuguese speaking countries (CPLP), which includes Angola, and Brazil.
The hydrocarbon resources of the Portuguese Speaking countries can perfectly compete with the Middle East oil.
But this does not seem to be too convenient to the world. Those that are not affiliated in any way with Equatorial Guinea, are clearly very offended.
In the last ten years there have been several attempts of coup d’état with the participation of armed mercenaries. All intents have failed, but the incursion of the international financial world, persist to continue with the defamation politics towards Equatorial Guinea.
The defamation politics against this African country has not been successful. Proof of that, which caused a big commotion among the press, was the extrajudicial agreement between the United States Department of justice and Teodoro Obiang Mange, the President’s son, and second Vice President of Equatorial Guinea.
In the agreement signed with the United States Justice, Teodor Obiang Mangue declared himself not guilty, but he agreed to sell his California mansion, his Ferrari and six Michael Jackson statues. The United States Department of Justice has guaranteed inviolability of any other property not covered by the terms of the agreement, and has committed to not helping countries in their attempt to confiscate properties belonging to the son of the President of Equatorial Guinea that are in United States territory.
Besides, the NGO’s that initiated the suit for the Vice President, will not receive a cent of the money obtained from the selling of the properties. The exception being the funds assigned to cover the expenses of the US Department of justice fo the case. All the other money will be donated to charitable organizations working in Equatorial Guinea.
Teodoro Obiang himself declared that he accepted the agreement with the US Department of Justice, with the purpose of strengthening the relationship among both countries. We should remember that the US ambassador Mark Asquino, qualified this relationship a “magnificent” one.
US Department of Justice stroked a big blow, no to the Equatorial Guinea, but to the image of the NGO’s.
…..
Up to this date, the participation of African countries in the activities of the Turkish contractor companies outside of Turkish territory, is almost of a 19 %. Even the Convention Center, where the Summit was held, was built by a project designed by the well known company Estambul Tabaniloglu Architects.
“We are not here in Africa to act and work from a colonial point of view, like others have done” said the Turkish Ambassador for Ethiopia Osman Riza Yavuzalp. “We are here as equal partners”
