Promotion Increases In Colombia

fam1

Puerto Vallarta, Jal.- The official promotional campaign for the Riviera Nayarit and Puerto Vallarta began in Medellin with the city’s top wholesalers, bolstered by a FAM trip to the bay; agents from Bogota also visited the region.

Promotion for the Riviera Nayarit and Puerto Vallarta in Colombia increased considerably during the current month of February, mainly in Medellin, but also in the capital city of Bogota.

The official promotional campaign for the Riviera Nayarit and Puerto Vallarta in Medellin began on February 4th and was a joint effort between the destinations, the Mexico Tourism Board (MTB), Aeromexico Airlines and two of the most important wholesalers in the city: Mayorplus and Luz Verde.

The presentation of the destinations was a resounding success, taking place during a private cocktail party for more than 100 leaders from Medellin, which is considered the second most important city in Colombia.

The owners of the two wholesale companies also visited the destinations on a FAM trip from February 5-9, focusing not only on regional hotel site inspections but also on understanding the differences between the destinations and how they complement each other in order to better sell them to their clientele.

It’s important to note that Aeromexico will begin four direct flights per week between Medellin and Mexico City on March 2nd, which will increase to daily flights in June.

The capital was also part of the drive

Colombia’s capital city of Bogota is also of great interest to the Riviera Nayarit and Puerto Vallarta, which is why another FAM trip took place from February 9-13 with the top producers and business managers for Colombian tour operators and market leaders UGA, Turivel and Pelícanos.

These efforts by the Riviera Nayarit Convention and Visitors Bureau continue to reaffirm its commitment to positioning the destination within new markets, thus ensuring an increase in tourism that will in turn benefit the people of Nayarit.

Has the Puerto Vallarta Real Estate Market Changed?

Cover

With condo sales up 54% in 2014 over 2013 we are having a lot of discussion with our agents and our Customers as to whether we have moved from a ‘Buyers Market’ to a ‘Seller’s Market’. Certainly things have changed, however to make an absolute statement to the affirmative would be perhaps a bit premature. In fairness, there has been a lot of ‘low-hanging’ inventory on the market over the past several years and now I think its fair to say, most of that easy pickin’ is gone. What we are noticing though is that the average number of days on the market for condos is dropping and the velocity of sales is definitely accelerating. So what we are starting to see is a narrowing between what sellers are prepared to accept and often what buyers are willing to pay which is usually precedes increased prices.

At the same time, the sales of single-family homes in the PV area has only moved up by 6% in the same period. We feel that something else is going on with this segment of the market and that is that the demographics of the property buyer has changed and that the boomers and zoomers who dominate this market are realizing – especially after the recession – that either they don’t have the disposable cash to buy the more expensive free-standing Villa and if they do, they often don’t have the need or want the responsibility associated with owning a home here.

So, what we are seeing right now in the Puerto Vallarta Real Estate market is a bit of a dichotomy … condominiums selling well and closing the gap between ask and offer with the potential of increasing prices …. and free-standing Villas sort of treading water with often a lot more negotiation occurring before the meeting of the minds. At the end of the day its all about trends. On one hand we seem to be trending away from a pure Buyers’ Market in condominiums but we are not really in what could be characterized as a Sellers’ Market – yet; and on the other, the continuation of a Buyers’ Market in the free standing Villa market with no real change in sight, at least not in the foreseeable future.

Vallarta Demonstrated its Tourism Potential at an Important Exposition

FIDETUR m4e1okxn1ale4ubg3syyidd8459zjnz1stief7rj4oDuring the 19th Morris Murdock Travel Show, which took place last week end at Salt Lake City, Utah, hundreds of travel agencies got to see for themselves the vast and updated tourist specials that Puerto Vallarta offers its visitors

The exposition, which by the way, doubles the number of participants that go to other tourist fairs in North America, was attended by representatives of airlines, boat companies, hotels, resorts, tourist offices and by other tourist services. They all had the opportunity to learn what different places in the world have for the tourists. Mexico stood out among the countries and Puerto Vallarta as beach destinations. Puerto Vallarta is well known by the American people, but it always has something new to offer.

Moctezuma Loza, FIDETUR promotion coordinator, and who represented Puerto Vallarta at the event, stated that Travel agents were excited to recommend Puerto Vallarta to their clients, considering that it is a place to look for; it is highly appreciated and always generates good comments from those who visit the place.

This kind of presentations, he said, allows us to highlight our presence and good image to such an important North American market; Utah alone, contributes with large numbers of people traveling to Puerto Vallarta in direct flights from Salt Lake City; add to this all the tourists from neighboring states such as Wyoming, Idaho, Nevada and Arizona.

For this event, Puerto Vallarta had all the support of the Board of Directors of Mexico Tourist Promotion, at the event, was represented by Victor Manuel Trujillo.

Most of those present at the Exposition have already been to Puerto Vallarta and want to come back, or they have heard good things about it from other people experiences; but they were all asking for the latest information on the region. They were informed of our new tours; such as Viva Tequila tour, Ecotourism Circuits on the Mountains, Canopies; and, during winter, Whale sighting. We also have Riviera Nayarit as an integral destination with loads of possibilities for travelers.

Meanwhile, the hotel industry was represented by Sheraton, Buganvilias, Los Arcos, Garza Blanca and Melia hotels.

Mexico's Cemex Reports Lower Net Loss in 2014

7319790134 e55e6214da z

Mexican consortium Cemex, one of the world's leading cement producers, posted a controlling income net loss of $507 million last year, down 40 percent from its net loss of $843.1 billion in 2013.

In a securities filing Thursday, Cemex said its net sales totaled $15.7 billion last year, up 3 percent from the $15.2 billion it reported in 2013.

The company, meanwhile, said its operating earnings before interest, taxes, depreciation and amortization, or operating EBITDA, rose 4 percent in 2014 to $2.74 billion, compared to $2.64 billion the previous year.

In the fourth quarter, Cemex posted a net loss of $178 million, down 30 percent from October-December 2013, when its net loss amounted to $255 million.

Net sales totaled $3.84 billion between October and December, down 1 percent from the same period of 2013, while the company's operating EBITDA in the fourth quarter amounted to $701 million, a 9 percent increase from the same period of the previous year.

At the close of December, Cemex's total debt plus perpetual notes totaled $16.29 billion, a decrease of 7 percent from the $17.47 billion reported 12 months earlier.

Cemex CEO Fernando Gonzalez Olivieri said the company posted a lower net loss for the third straight year in 2014.

"We are pleased with the growth in volumes and local-currency prices for our products in most of our regions," he said, while also touting the strengthening of the company's credit profile.

"We continue to improve our debt maturity profile and interest expense through our debt reduction of close to $1.2 billion and our refinancing activities of approximately $5 billion during (2014)," Gonzalez added.

Cemex struggled to pay its debt after it acquired Australian cement maker Rinker for $15.3 billion in 2007 and the construction industry in the United States and Europe plunged into crisis in 2008.

Founded in 1906, Cemex's main competitors include France's Lafarge and Switzerland's Holcim, which announced merger plans last April. EFE

Hotel Owners Will Strengthen Their Support to Puerto Vallarta

001

Upon the swearing in of Puerto Vallarta Hotel Association New Board of Directors, Ignacio Cadena Beraud, president of FIDETUR, stated that this is the perfect moment to support the Hotel Association, in their endeavor to look for strategies and financial assistance from State and Federal Governments, in order to be able to continue with tourism recovery.

The Hotel Trade is, without a doubt, FIDETUR’s most important element. It is the institution in charge of lodging, welcoming and promoting our tourist areas in foreign and national markets, with the blessing of all the citizens of Vallarta.

Thanks to group efforts - business men, employees and private initiative- Puerto Vallarta, this year, had a substantial increment of more than 237 thousand foreign tourists from North America, in comparison to the year 2013. This can be measured by looking at the city and the hotels high occupancy rate.

“What we have been able to see since winter started is that Hotels are doing business; so are the resaturants, retail stores and, in general, all those who provide some kind of service”.

The President of FIDETUR, however, called on everyone to continue with the good work. He said that this is the time to accelarate our steps, it is the time to work harder so that Puerto Vallarta may continue growing , which is what every body wants.

In reference to the new president f the Hotel Association, Cadena Beraud said: “Rodolfo Pacheco is now responsible for the Association, he will coordinate the efforts of all hotel owners. Rodolfo has a very clear idea of what needs to be done, he is very familiar with the hotel business in this region, and he is hotelier by vocation and a highly regarded professional”.

That’s why, he added, we are all very sure that he is not only going to continue the work of previous Boards; this is not a job for one president but it is a job for presidents. The Board of Directors is fundamental for all decisions, but it is necessary t have a coordinator, and no one better than Rodolfo Pacheco, whom we welcome and promise all our support.

Addressing Pacheco, he said: “I know you have a very good plan of work, a precise and clear one; without doubt, this plan will help to mark the course and the rhythm on how to move forward on Hotels professionalization, certification and success, which should leave profits that, will be spread out around the city and the region”.

He also mentioned that Rodolfo Pacheco initiates his period as President of the Board with the support of the hotel, restaurant and commercial sectors, and also of the business and labor sectors; which together, make him, and the region, stronger.

af75b217 aa99 48de bed8 70a5e01f0285

A total of 19,935,929 impacts were generated in Colombia with a return on investment of $1,186,650 USD. Thanks to this, more Colombians than ever now know Mexico’s Pacific Treasure.

2014 generated positive results in the positioning the Riviera Nayarit in Colombia. The Public Relations department of the Riviera Nayarit Convention and Visitors Bureau (CVB) launched several targeted strategies that placed the destination squarely in the sights of Colombian travelers.

This year, impressions reached a total of 19,935,929 distributed via written and digital media, specialty publications, television and radio.

These numbers produced a return on investment of $1,186,650 USD; the money was invested mainly in press releases and FAM trips, as well as interviews and other activities.

It’s important to point out there are still numbers pending from articles published as a result of the activities scheduled during the last trimester of 2014.

Among the outstanding media that ran information on the Rivera Maya as a product of the PR department’s efforts is El Tiempo, with a printed circulation that delivers over a million impressions and a digital version delivering over two million impressions.

Another standout is MSN Noticias, with a reach that surpasses three million impressions. Dailies such as El Colombiano and El Espectador, as well as Revista Carrusel, delivered more than 500 thousand impressions each.

Thanks to these results it’s expected these numbers will be surpassed in 2015, as work will continue in Colombia and with it the probability of seeing an increase in Colombian tourists, whose visits can only serve to help the families of Nayarit.

Consortium Including Slim's Carso Energy Wins Contract for Texas Pipeline

 carso energy

Mexican multi-billionaire Carlos Slim's Carso Energy and its consortium partners have been awarded another contract for a natural gas pipeline that will originate in western Texas and run to the U.S.-Mexico border.

The consortium made up of Carso Energy, a unit of Slim's Grupo Carso industrial conglomerate; and two U.S. companies - Energy Transfer Partners and MasTec, Inc. - won the contract for the pipeline to transport natural gas from the Waha Hub to the U.S.-Mexico border near San Elizario, Texas, Mexican state electric utility CFE said in a statement Wednesday.

It presented a $596.3 million bid, which the CFE said offered a "high technical level and the lowest economic cost."

The project involves the design, engineering, delivery, construction, operation and maintenance of the natural gas pipeline, which will be 42 inches in diameter and have the capacity to transport 1.14 billion cubic feet of gas per day.

Because the contract involved services hired in the United States, the bidding process conformed to tender procedures in that country, the CFE said.

The new Waha-San Elizario pipeline - expected to begin operating in January 2017 - will connect with the planned San Isidro-Samalayuca gas conduit in the northern border state of Chihuahua.

Earlier this month, that same consortium won another contract to build a pipeline bringing natural gas from Texas to northern Mexico.

That pipeline - known as Waha-Presidio and expected to begin operating in March 2017 - will connect with the planned Ojinaga-El Encino gas conduit, which will transport natural gas in Chihuahua state.

The pipelines are "part of a strategy to reduce costs in the generation of electric power, replacing refined oil fuel with natural gas, which is cheaper and less polluting," the CFE says.
