The Riviera Nayarit and Puerto Vallarta’s tourism attractions were promoted via 58 face-to-face appointments; the Riviera Nayarit as a Virtuoso Destination was of special interest to agencies and consortiums that belong to this category.

June was a month of intense promotional activity for the Riviera Nayarit Conventions and Visitors Bureau (CVB), which together with the Puerto Vallarta Tourism Trust ended this period in Hollywood, Florida, by participating in the Global Travel Marketplace East 2015 (2015).

This was the third year in a row for the GTM, organized by Travel Weekly. The event is held on the East and West coasts of the United States, attracting mostly owners and top executives of agencies linked to consortiums.

“The Joint Promotional Campaign is in search of new Emerging Markets, but that doesn’t mean we’ve been neglecting the Natural Markets that have always been there for us; we’re looking to diversify without losing what we’ve already established,” commented Marc Murphy, Managing Director for the Riviera Nayarit CVB.

The agencies Travel Weekly invites to its events are chosen according to their average annual sales, which must reach a minimum of one million US dollars in order to be able to participate.

Fifty-eight face-to-face appointments with travel agents were held to promote the tourism attractions of both destinations. It’s of note that the agencies and consortiums belonging to Virtuoso were present at the event and showed particular interest in the Riviera Nayarit thanks to its classification as a Virtuoso Destination.

Agents from Arizona, California, Colorado, Georgia, Iowa, Indiana, Illinois, Missouri, Michigan, New England (Boston), New York, Texas, Washington and other states were present at the event. Agents from Vancouver, British Columbia and Toronto, Ontario were present from Canada.

The Riviera Nayarit Strengthens Its Promotion In Chile And Argentina

The three axes of Joint Promotion (Advertising, Training and Public Relations) presented their strategies to eight accounts in Chile and another eight in Argentina.

Marc Murphy, Managing Director for the Riviera Nayarit Convention and Visitors Bureau (CVB), undertook an intense business trip to Chile and Argentina accompanied by the Destination and Puerto Vallarta’s three Promotional offices in order to strengthen their Joint Promotion efforts in South America.

They visited both countries from June 22-26, 2015, where they offered presentations in order to set out the strategies with which they will strengthen the alliances they have in place to activate these South American Emerging Markets.

“We went there to meet with the executives and general managers of each account that we have worked with in these countries in order to explain the integration of our offices and the three main axes of Promotion: Advertising, Training and Public Relations,” added Murphy.

In order to cement relationships with business partners and honor their alliances the teams hosted dinners with the account managers in Chile and Argentina.

The tour operators in Argentina include: American Executive, Eurovips, Trayecto Uno, MDC Turismo, Logran Travel, Ola, Julia Tours and Freeway. In Chile: Repse, Solways, ADS Mundo, Cocha, Expan, Euroandino, Panamericana and Viaclub.

The topic of airlift was discussed with Aeroméxico Airlines in order to find a way to support the tour operators with ticket prices with the intent of motivating South American travelers to visit the region.

Other actions included a training workshop in Chile for the MICE and Leisure department of retailer Viajes Falabela, a leading agency in Santiago de Chile, the capital of that country.


The teams also hosted a breakfast conference in Argentina, attended by representatives of 16 tourism-related media.

Captain Morgan Promotes Sayulita In The United States

The latest commercial touting the brand’s newest drinks is now showing on TV screens throughout the United States and on social media channels; to date there have been over 43 thousand views on YouTube.

Sayulita—also known as the Riviera Nayarit’s Surfing Capital—continues to elevate its positioning on a major scale. The media’s interest in this hippie chic village piqued the interest of the producers of Captain Morgan USA, prompting them to choose it as the location for one of its latest commercials.

Captain Morgan put together several commercials for the launch of its new tropical flavors, with the Sayulita version being the most attractive of them all.

The ad presents model Chrissy Teigen as “Paquita Pantalones” in a skit they titled “I Know What You Drank Next Summer,” where she encourages watchers to surrender to the three new tropical flavors.

Captain Morgan is known for its very popular marketing campaigns. This commercial has been aired on open TV channels throughout the United States, as well as on the social media channels managed by the model, the rum brand and the Destination.

The Riviera Nayarit Convention and Visitors Bureau worked behind the scenes to help with the production of the commercial after the Captain Morgan brand contacted them when they chose Sayulita as the location for the shoot.

The taping took place over the span of a week last February and generated an immediate influx of $200 thousand Mexican pesos to the region via the services used by the production crew.

 

The Synergy Between Sayulita And Punta De Mita Is Evident During FAM Trips

Agents from the United States and Canada toured the Riviera Nayarit during FAM trips that included collaboration with the Iberostar Playa Mita hotel in order to demonstrate how these two microdestinations can complement each other.

The synergy between Punta de Mita’s luxury hotel services and other nearby microdestinations such as Sayulita is undeniable. This inspired the Riviera Nayarit Convention and Visitors Bureau (CVB) to unite the two for a couple of recent FAM trips held for groups of North American travel agents.

The Riviera Nayarit CVB invited members of the Groups Call Center for tour operator and airline WestJet to a FAM trip in mid-June. The Iberostar Playa Mita hosted another trip for Beach Bum Vacations’ travel agents, which included the participation of the Riviera Nayarit CVB.

“The idea behind this is simple: in Sayulita there are many villas but there are no all-inclusive services, while in Punta de Mita there are luxury accommodations that offer this service. Their proximity creates a synergy that offers wholesalers an important sales tool,” explained Marc Murphy, Managing Director for the Riviera Nayarit CVB.

Thirteen agents from the WestJet Call Center that specialize in groups and incentives were invited and attended a dinner seminar at the Iberostar. WestJet Airlines has strong airlift from Canada that strengthens the Destination, with flights from Calgary, Toronto, Quebec, Ottawa, Saskatoon, and other cities in Canada and the US.

The group of 16 from wholesaler Beach Bum Vacations invited by Iberostar had the opportunity to enjoy this all-inclusive hotel’s amenities in Punta de Mita, but they also were able to experience the laid-back lifestyle of Sayulita. Only top agents from this particular wholesaler were invited on this FAM trip.

Check Betty Vázquez To Judge Master Chef Mexico

The Riviera Nayarit’s Culinary Ambassador will participate in this Tv Azteca production in conjunction with Discovery Home & Health; it will air in Mexico and Latin America.

Chef Betty Vázquez, Culinary Ambassador for the Riviera Nayarit, was named as one of three judges for the first-ever Master Chef Mexico, a reality cooking show in search of the countries most talented amateur chef.

“The show airs very soon. It’s a very well produced series born of a lot of effort on behalf of its participants and months of searching throughout Mexico for the first #MasterChefMx. I’m very proud to be a part of it,” said Chef Betty Vázquez.

Betty has championed the cuisine of Nayarit, placing it front and center stage during her years of traveling around the world together with the Riviera Nayarit Convention and Visitors Bureau. Now she will be on Tv Azteca for 16 consecutive Sundays starting on June 28, 2015.

“The destination brought us together and gave us the opportunity to be a part of this marvelous project,” she added. She also stated “the challenge for participants is to win thanks to their talent as cooks and proudly represent the first generation of participants in Master Chef Mexico.”

The Tv Azteca production was completed in conjunction with Discovery Home & Health, which will transmit the programs through Latin America starting on July 9, 2015.

There are 18 handpicked participants from several regions in the country, chosen from a casting call of 9,000. They passed several qualifying rounds and will now vie for the top award and take home a prize of one million pesos.

The Riviera Nayarit hosted the 20th anniversary of Integra Destinos & Convenciones and also participated in Chicago’s IBTM America and Monterrey’s Expo Tu Boda, reinforcing the MICE segment.

The Riviera Nayarit Convention and Visitors Bureau (CVB) was very busy in the past few days positioning the Destination within the Meetings Tourism Market via its Promotion and Groups departments.

The MICE (Meetings, Incentives, Conferences and Exhibitions) segment was reinforced on a national and an international level in Nuevo Vallarta, Monterrey and Chicago. The Destination hosted 491 events of this kind, with the participation of approximately 100 thousand participants.

20th Anniversary For Integra

The celebration of the 20th anniversary of Integra Destinos & Convenciones served to inaugurate Nuevo Vallarta’s new Hard Rock Hotel Convention Center on June 20th. The Groups and Events department of the Riviera Nayarit CVB helped make the event happen, which was attended by 250 national meeting planners with the support of 10 of the Destination’s hotels.

IBTM America

The Promotions Department of the Riviera Nayarit CVB in collaboration with the Mexico Tourism Board participated in Chicago’s IBTM America from June 9-11. Eighty face-to-face business meetings took place there with the most exclusive meeting planners in the US.

IBTM America is the world’s most important showcase for the MICE segment, providing business solutions across six continents via eight regional and international events.

Expo Tu Boda


From June 13-14, representative teams from the Riviera Nayarit and Puerto Vallarta attended the traditional Expo Tu Boda held in Monterrey, considered to be the largest Romance Expo in Latin America. There they presented the Destinations’ idyllic landscapes and first-class services to around 3,000 brides-to-be.
