Unveiling the Mysteries of the Past: Archeology and Cultural Heritage in Puerto Vallarta

History comes alive in the heart of Pitillal. This time, the traveling museum brings forth the theme of Archaeology in Puerto Vallarta. As a reminder, last month, the main focus was on the Foundation of the Municipality and its designation as a City. Now, the museum delves into the realm of Archaeology, the science that reconstructs the human past through the study and interpretation of cultural remains, materials, and any other traces or evidence of human activity. In the case of Puerto Vallarta, this past can range from ancient to more recent times.

Within Puerto Vallarta, there is an archaeological zone that is only just being discovered. Authorities are planning to use it as a tourist attraction, yet very few people are aware of its existence. Located in the Ixtapa delegation, between the Niños Héroes and Santo Domingo neighborhoods, there are already intentions to develop and preserve these sites. However, let us not forget the significant vestiges of carved stones and cave paintings found near the Mismaloya River, which unfortunately are being subjected to vandalism.

The Traveling Museum project is part of the efforts by the Ruta MusHi (Museum of History) Foundation, supported by other Civil Associations, to carry out this fascinating work. Some collaborators of this important project include:

History is a discipline that allows us to understand our past, make sense of our present, and shape our future. One of the primary reasons to study history today is to comprehend the changes in contemporary society and the emergence of the world we live in.
