The symbolic Jalisco drink, Tequila, and its millenary production process, became another one of Puerto Vallarta’s attractions with the opening of Viva Tequila Experience Tour which started its activities last Saturday, February 7.
The complete experience includes a tour of the city, a guided visit to the museum, tequila tasting – with a tequila expert- and an enjoyable Mariachi and traditional Ballet Show at the new Interactive Museum, former Vallarta Theater, stage.
Tourists arel be able to select some of the options for this new experience or take the whole tour. The tour takes place around downtown Vallarta in a vehicle designed like a train. The vehicle itself helps to promote the event since people walking around Main Avenue, Morelos street and Olas Altas zone, see it, get curious, and want to take the tour.
The tour starts in front of Gallerias Vallarta and continues to the ex Vallarta Theater building for the guided visit to the new Viva Tequila Experience Museum. The museum has several aspects; as you walk in they explain the mythological origin of tequila and tell you about Mayahuel Goddess; you see details of the process and production of the drink on screen.
Production of the so called, national drink involves several senses. Smell plays a very important part; there comes a point when visitors are invited to smell several bottles and asked to identify different aromas that could be perceived in the tequila, including two bottles that are samples of bad quality or adulterated tequila.
Next, they go on to explain the use of the “ladron”, which is an instrument used to take out the tequila from the oak barrels; tourists learn how to serve it and how to enjoy and appreciate good tequila.
Then comes the tasting; visitors get several glasses of white, aged and “reposado” tequila. They also get other tools to prepare for tasting and smelling. With the help of a tequila expert, tasters little by little discovered the different aromas and tastes in the drink before saying “sheers” quite a few times.
The event ends with a presentation of the traditional Ballet, fallowed by Mariachis who this time got a euphoric welcoming from the cheerful visitors.
On the day of the inauguration of Viva Tequila Experience, local residents got a 50 % discount.
