A great human being, who's photographic talent has made many children happy in Vallarta.
The professional photographer shares with us, his most exciting photographic experiences, from his voyages by sea, to the fascinating underwater world.
Scott, When did you realize you had a taste for photography?
I have been sailing for 13 years now, I got into just taking private pictures. Right away, when I see the dolphins, see the whales, see everything they had to offer and just got into it a little more professionally in the last five years.
Have you ever got something you never imagined taking a photograph?
(laugh) Yes once in a while. I took a picture, but it was not what I imagined was, this happened to me, one of my pictures of whales was an awesome picture, I saw a whale on the open water together with some more and all the whales were just jumping there, and i didn't see what I had until after I took the picture and looking at it, and then I saw the picture with the whale twisting, the water coming off after, the power boat back behind it, everything was just there and I made it, a GREAT PICTURE!!! (laugh)
Tell me something funny that happened to you??
(laugh) before I had a professional camera, I took just rings on the water, and my camera wasn't digital so I took a whale picture, after that I showed my friends, everybody was asking me, what are those rings on the water? Those rings were left, after the whale breach, so everything I had was the rings on the water, I clicked my camera and missed the whale, the rings were where the whale was, so I didn't have the whale, that was funny! Those things happen when you don't have a professional camera, It was so fun learning that experience to figure it how can made it.
Like I said, a lot of times, you don't see, what you had until you look at it.
When did you decided to buy a professional camera?
I've seen people with professional cameras and they just clicked and clicked and clicked with the digital camera. I said in my mind, what I really need and I don't have yet, is a good camera to allow me to see what I am taking. That inspired me to have a better camera, before I had a digital camera I made a mess trying to learn and taking more time for a photo, to be more professional, like I said a lot of times you don't see what you had until you look at it.
Now, talk to me about your photo exhibitions,
Why did you decide to title the exhibition fragments of the sea?
Just because a lot of my pictures, have been taken through out five years on the sea, I do yacht deliveries, taking other people boats back and forth, and watching the sunsets, the animals, the wild life, visiting places with different cultures, so the name for the photo expo, was fragments of the sea.
I can see that your photos were taken in various parts of the world, can you tell me
which sites you have visited?
Some are from British Virgen Islands, I have a few pictures from Panama and Costa Rica, El Salvador, Nicaragua, most of Central America, except Guatemala and Belize, and all through Mexico.
I know that you support charity homes, where there are low- income children with health problems. Do you have in your collection, any photographs of these children?
No, my pictures mostly are on the sea and nature.
Have you ever participated in an exhibition out of Puerto Vallarta?
I have done one small one in Puesta del sol Nicaragua, in the marina there.
Is There a Gallery where your photographs are on display?
No, but welcome to use my photos, or have or donate
Do you plan before taking photos?
No, most of them are spontaneous just cause we are there, sometimes I am walking and I see something, spectacular like the sunset, the moon, and I say oh let me go and grab my camera, and then start taking pictures.
So you always bring your camera?
No, not always, I have seen one big giant MANTA RAY here in the bay in ten years, when I have been out on the boat, I was with my friends, and I didn't have my camera, and I said Ooh! No, there is something over there, and somebody else got the picture, but not me.
You can see him walking around downtown, and all you can see, is a tall guy, with a huge camera, and then you say oh! It must be Murray!
Why did you included in your last photo exhibition the Canadian Photographer Murray?
Murray is a friend of mine who takes amazing pictures all over Vallarta, everything I have seen from him, is awesome, he has a wonderful eye for photography, and he has an abstract angle, he will lay down on the floor, on his back, he's got an eye for it, you can see him walking around downtown and all you can see is a tall guy, with a huge camera, and then you say Oh! it must be Murray.
Have you planed another photo exhibition?
Next year when Murray comes back from Edmonton Canada, probably in February next year, we plan to do, another exhibition.
At the end of the interview, Scott said, thank you very much to Vallarta Today,
for helping make this happened, covering events that people can enjoy, and encouraging people buy these pictures to help children of the dump.
