Mexicans in the U.S. Are Heroes of the Nation: President Claudia Sheinbaum

During the commemorative parade for the 114th Anniversary of the Mexican Revolution, Mexico's President Claudia Sheinbaum Pardo affirmed that the country is undergoing a profound transformation and is admired worldwide thanks to its resilient, loving, supportive, and hardworking people, both within the national territory and abroad. She referred to Mexicans living across the border as heroes and heroines of the nation.

“Mexican men and women in the United States, our compatriots, are heroes and heroines of the nation—workers who support their families and Mexico's economy. But let it be heard loud and clear: they also contribute to the economy of our neighboring country, the United States,” she emphasized.

She reminded the audience that Mexicans are among the best workers in the world, tirelessly building a brighter future everywhere they go.

"At 114 years since the beginning of the Mexican Revolution, we declare: We are a free, sovereign, independent, supportive, generous, and democratic country, and we do not forget where we come from! That is why we commemorate the Mexican Revolution and say with certainty and heart: Long live Mexican men and women! Long live the hardworking and brave people of Mexico! Long live Mexico! Long live Mexico! Long live Mexico!" she proclaimed.

Acknowledging Mexico’s Transformations

In her address, Sheinbaum outlined the three major transformations in the country’s history—Independence, the Reform, and the Mexican Revolution—and highlighted the Fourth Transformation of public life, initiated in 2018 under the leadership of former President Andrés Manuel López Obrador. She stated that during her presidency, the country is experiencing the "Second Phase of the Transformation," a historic process supported by a vast majority of the people.

“I understand that only with the support of the broad majority of the people can we continue this great transformation of our nation. That is why we will never separate ourselves from the sentiments of the nation, never distance ourselves from the people of Mexico. With a long tradition of struggle, the people of Mexico have been the protagonists of the country's transformations; we owe ourselves to them, and we serve them," she stated.

She reiterated that the Second Phase of the Fourth Transformation continues to expand welfare programs, schools, universities, and the healthcare system. It also fosters better-paying jobs and promotes peace daily. She highlighted that alongside the Armed Forces, new passenger trains, roads, and potable water projects are being built.

“We are also reclaiming the social spirit of the 1917 Constitution. A constitutional reform was passed to allow the election of judges, magistrates, and Supreme Court justices by the people. The National Guard was integrated into the Ministry of Defense. Full rights for Indigenous communities were approved. Welfare programs are now constitutional rights. Women have also gained full constitutional recognition. Furthermore, Pemex and the Federal Electricity Commission are regaining their public character,” she declared.

A Model for Progress

Sheinbaum emphasized that the Fourth Transformation’s model is based on eradicating corruption and privileges to address the majority's needs and improve workers' incomes. This has reduced poverty and inequality, steering the country towards a path of shared prosperity.

She celebrated that, 114 years after the Revolution, Mexico remains a free country thanks to the struggles of great figures like Francisco I. Madero, Catarino Garza, the Flores Magón brothers, Venustiano Carranza, Emiliano Zapata, Francisco Villa, Elisa Acuña, Adela Velarde, Clara de la Rocha, Carmen Parra, and many unnamed heroines.

Recognizing the Armed Forces

As Commander-in-Chief, Sheinbaum recognized the Armed Forces' dedication to the nation. She highlighted that these forces, born from a social revolution opposing a coup d'état, have upheld the principles of democracy and the defense of the people's rights for over a century.

“They stem from the fight for democracy and the defense of the people's rights, principles they continue to uphold today. That’s why we confirm that the Armed Forces are the uniformed people—brave men and women who love their homeland and dedicate their efforts and lives to the nation’s well-being," she added.

Celebrating the Parade

During the parade, Secretary of National Defense Ricardo Trevilla Trejo reaffirmed the commitment to serve the people of Mexico with honesty, closeness, and a focus on the supreme interests of the nation.

Deputy Secretary of National Defense Enrique Covarrubias López reported to the Commander-in-Chief that, as part of the Revolution’s 114th anniversary, the parade included:

38 flags

2,576 members of the Armed Forces and National Guard

168 representatives of Mexico’s Indigenous communities

A United Celebration

The commemorative ceremony was attended by officials from the Ministry of Defense, Navy, and National Guard, as well as members of Mexico’s legal and expanded cabinet. Also present were military, naval, and air attachés, retired generals, and representatives of the Mexican Armed Forces.
