no-thermal-inversionIn Puerto Vallarta no thermal inversion episodes have been registered on this 2013 - 2014 winter, so informed the head of the Meteorological Studies Center of the Coast (CEMCO) of the University Center of the Coast, Víctor Manuel Cornejo López.

In this respect he explained that in order for a thermal inversion to generate there should be a stable atmosphere, "there needs to be a meteorological system called anticyclone, which up to now has presented itself without strength.

In such a way that in relation to other years, the thermal inversions have been minor and possibly in February or March the atmosphere stabilizes and the emissions could generate in a few days a creamy sky, formed by contaminating emissions coming mainly from motor vehicles".

Before the expressions of the local citizens who are perplexed because there have been more winter rains than other years, he indicated that in reality the present one is normal up to a certain point.

"The thing is that it has already been a decade since it has not behaved that way, above all with well marked winter rains and on the other hand with constant humidity incursions and rains. Not that they are unexpected, as each cold front that comes into national territory pulls humidity from the Pacific Ocean".

He added that the humidity is immediately elevated by the mountains and generates a local rain at the foot of the mountain, which does not come from systems; for that reason it has been raining close to the sierra, not so much on the valley.

This situation, he said, will continue presenting itself with each cold front that comes into the country and pulls humid air towards the coastal zone.

On the other hand, he indicated that they are experiencing a slightly more intense winter than normal in the northern and oriental part of the country, not so in the Pacific coast, as the Western Sierra Madre works as a filter.

"Possibly we will have another episode of rains in February with a slight decrease in temperature. This has to do with the fact that this year there is no Niño or Niña effect. When this last one presents itself there is a marked decrease in temperature during the winter".

Finally, he recalled that when beginning this decade there was an episode in which there were minimums under 10 degrees centigrade, while this winter, the thermometer has not gone bellow 15 degrees. "For us this winter has been benign, contrary to other parts of the country", he concluded.
