• There will be no Breathalyzers. The Ministry argues that it is to give the Jaliscan families some tranquility
The Operative Saving Lives will restart on December 26 and will continue during the celebrations of new year.
Contrary to the implementation objectives of the revisions for drunken drivers, the Ministry of Mobility decided not to apply the revision neither in Christmas nor Christmas Eve, even though it is of common knowledge that they are both days in which the consumption of alcoholic beverages increases .
The measure was not taken with the necessary discretion, but on the contrary, the head of the department, Mauricio Gudiño, decided to announce it in a press conference and also with a message through his Twitter account. He even sent an information bulletin to the media.“The days of December 24 and 25 there will not be any Breathalyzer operations so that the Jaliscan families can celebrate these dates peacefully, but there will be revisions on December 31, even though it is Tuesday”.
In this same informative bulletin, in which it is announced that there will not be Breathalyzer operations, the dangerousness of the season is noted.
“It is precisely during the month of December when the highest number of traffic accidents are registered, thus I invite everyone to exercise extreme caution so that the Jaliscans do not have to regret any incident”.
In contrast with this measure, the Ministry of Mobility of Jalisco and the Ministry of Public Security of Mexico City, yesterday reiterated through a communiqué, that the operation Drive without Alcohol, to detect intoxicated drivers, will apply the 24 hours of the day until January 6th of 2014, as it has been since December 16th in 20 points of the capital, in an itinerant way.
In the same press conference, Mauricio Gudiño reckoned the statistics left by the Breathalyzer operation from November 15th, when it initiated, to date:
“The total balance that we have is of 17 thousand 73 Breathalyzer tests, 296 people arrested and 122 fines (…) If the tendency of accidents is sustained, if it does not keep going down, we will implement more checks and we are also reviewing it for the rest of the state”.
He asks everyone to pay attention in the freeways
The Ministry of Mobility goes to work with the Ministry of Communications and Transport trying to prevent freeway accidents.
“We are going to work during this Christmas season with the SCT”, he commented. “They are applying a Breathalyzer operation for cargo and passenger vehicles”.
“We are going to make some operations jointly during these holidays, sharing the information with each other to prevent accidents, especially in the freeway exits with a great flow. We are going to do joint operations with the only purpose to save lives”.
The operations will be carried out, according to Mobility, mainly in the freeway exits like the freeway to Mexico, to Los Altos of Jalisco, to Chapala, as well as in the avenues that have foreign destinations like Lázaro Cárdenas, Vallarta, López Mateos and prolongación Alcalde.
