17th Annual Festival de Primavera. In the last week of March the sun moved from a path below the equator to one above it, and on Wednesday, March 20st, which marks the first day of spring in the Northern Hemisphere, it hovers directly over the equator, equally dividing our hours of daylight and darkness.
Since the onset of agriculture, our ancient forebears marked the spring equinox, known as the Vernal Equinox, as an ideal time to plant seeds. Today, relics of these traditions live on in lore and practice in gardens and fields around the world. Even the first Earth Day, in 1970, was originally celebrated on the spring equinox.
With spring comes the return of light, making the Vernal Equinox a traditional time for celebrations and festivals around the globe. Here in Puerto Vallarta, the day is celebrated through concerts, shows and traditional Aztec ceremonies at sunset.
On the evening of March 21, Cuates y Cuetes on the South Side of Puerto Vallarta was a great place to celebrate the coming of the Spring. One of the best parts about celebrating the Spring Equinox at Cuates y Cuetes is that every year they sponsor a live concert on the beach.
This year, they held the 17th edition of their annual Spring Equinox Festival (Festival de Primavera) on the beach next to Los Muertos Pier. The party got started as some of the most popular bands in Puerto Vallarta got together to perform a Free Jazz Concert.

There was the traditional Prehispanic Dance at sunset to thank nature and say goodbye to the old sun and an old era, hoping and awaiting for a brand new and better day... a new fire.
We all celebrated the coming of the Spring with Cuates y Cuetes on Los Muertos beach on the north side of Los Muertos Pier. This is one party you won't want to miss next year!! Admission is Free.
