presuntomexicanoROME, ITALY (25/SEP/2012.) - An alleged Mexican citizen aged 55 was arrested at Linate airport in Milan, Italy, with half kilogram of cocaine, local authorities said.

The commander of the Guardia di Finanza (tax police and border) at the airport of Linate, Teresa Gravante, said the arrest took place on Saturday.

He said the man, 55 years old, whose identity was not disclosed by order of the judiciary, expressed concern after being arrested for his family in Mexico, which could be a victim of drug traffickers who used to send the drug to Italy.

In response, Gravante said,the Mexican consulate in Milan was notified.

The consul Jose Barajas said, the case still on and that it was awaiting for the Mexican authorities confirm the identity of the detainee

According Gravante, the man was arrested during a routine customs and at first stated that he traveled to Italy just to spend a week's vacation.

However, they look "humble" and the fact that travel with little money raised suspicions, so his luggage was X-rayed

Thus it was found that his suitcase had a false bottom in carrying cocaine divided into small packets.

After his arrest, the man was transferred to the San Vittore prison in Milan, which will be attended by Mexican consular authority if nationality is confirmed.
