The closing ceremony took place this past Saturday.
The municipal president of Puerto Vallarta, Professor Luis Alberto Michel Rodríguez, closed the successful Day of the Dead Festival 2022, crowned with the achievement of the Guinness World Record for the tallest monumental catrina in the world.
After nine days of an excellent program of activities that began on October 27th, Saturday night ended the event enjoyed by thousands of locals and visitors on the Malecon, which looked splendorous with a large number of catrinas, skulls and various figures alluding to this very Mexican holiday.
In front of a large crowd, as there was in each of the days, awards were presented to all the participants in the elaboration of the monumental catrina, as well as to those who were part of the artistic and cultural program of the festival.
Accompanied by the head of the Federal Consumer Protection Agency (PROFECO), Ricardo Sheffield Padilla, who was visiting the port, Professor Michel stated that Puerto Vallarta continues to grow day by day as a tourist destination, more investors are arriving who believe in the city and each time it has more attractions, to which now the monumental catrina has been added, which represented a Guinness Record with its 22.67 meters of height.
"With this great fair Puerto Vallarta today is in millions of homes and this is a strength for us because it generates economy in the destination, for all Vallartenses, for all those who come in search of work. Next year, we are waiting for you to come and see the catrina, we will not let others take the record away from us, we will keep it. I congratulate everyone who took part in this great project, there were many, from the design of Alondra Muca. Today we close the Day of the Dead Festival and the catrina will remain here until next Monday, when it will be dismantled", he pointed out.
The director of the Vallarta Institute of Culture, Luis Jesús Escoto Martínez, presented Profe Michel with a small catrina beautifully dressed in the Huichol style, for his enthusiasm in promoting Mexican culture and traditions in our municipality.
At the end of the ceremony, Profe Michel and Ricardo Sheffield took pictures with the Guinness Record certificate at the foot of the monumental catrina, as did many locals and visitors. The head of PROFECO, also enthusiastic, expressed: "I visited Puerto Vallarta, Jalisco and I had the opportunity to see the biggest Catrina skull in the world, very cool! It is already certified by Guiness World Records and verified by PROFECO. Thank you very much, Mayor!".
