The System for the Integral Family Development (DIF) Jalisco, the Ministry of Health and the Jalisco Institute of Women began this morning a major campaign against breast cancer in the state, which last year had a thousand 588 detections, 477 of which ended in death, since unfortunately 70 percent of the cases are diagnosed at an advanced stage.

On the framework of the International Day against Breast Cancer to be commemorated on October 19, this Monday, the president of the State DIF, Lorena Jassibe Arriaga de Sandoval opened five mobile mammography units that provide free care to the population in different parts of the metropolitan area.

"With these awareness campaigns that began since early October with the campaign 'Very earnestly close to your heart' (‘Muy a pecho cerca de tu corazón’) what we want is for us women, to become aware that if we detect it early, we have a high chance of this not reaching fatal consequences", said the president of the State DIF.

Arriaga de Sandoval said that Jalisco wants women to be healthy, to lose their fear of self-exploration and medical care, and to urge their families to do just as much.

"If us women have won many battles, we have won the right to vote, we have earned the right to study, we have gained many things that we have proposed ourselves, then we believe that we can win this fight against cancer and be responsible with our health", she said.

The state health secretary, Jaime Agustín González Álvarez, said that these mobile mammography units have special features, because the equipment they have is digital and the side effect "is less invasive, with less radiation, faster, safer and we can send the image to a care center where the diagnosis can be made quickly".

Subsequently, as part of the Breast Cancer Prevention, the president of the care organism initiated the operation Free Mammography Mobile Unit that will be in service from October 14 to 18 in the premises of the State DIF, located in Alcalde 1220.

"I think that we should all go, because it only costs us a moment and it is a moment that can save us. I come only for prevention, I have no discomfort or anything, but every year I think of doing it for prevention", said Mirna Vázquez, who waited her turn to be examined.

The Free Mammography Mobile Unit of the State Ministry of Health will perform 70 tests per day. The requirements to be examined are to be between 40 and 69 years of age, not to have had a mammogram in a period of less than a year, to come shaved, without body lotion, perfume or deodorant and go in between 11:00 and 15:00 hours.
