Making sure your trees and shrubs are trimmed down to where they won’t fly away and cause damage to property is another valuable area to take care of. There are many luscious plants all around Puerto Vallarta, and although they create beautiful scenery, taking care that they are trimmed and secured can be a life-saving during a hurricane or tropical storm. You will also want to make sure that trash can lids have tie downs on them to ensure they won’t fly away during the strong winds and possible crash through windows. Hurricanes can produce winds that are faster than 150 miles per hour and can potentially cause catastrophic damage to both property and people who may be out in the storm’s path. Hurricanes can come inland for well over 150 miles and the damage they can bring can be life threatening as well as extremely costly when people are not fully prepared.

Installing permanent shutters on all of your home exterior windows is highly recommended. When you can’t install shutters, it is advisable to board windows with a minimum of a 5/8 inch thick boards before the storm is in the area. Windows breaking during a hurricane or tropical storm can cause serious damage to both property and to people in your home or business during the storm.
