A factor that has not been sufficiently exploited by the tourist sector is the fact that Puerto Vallarta in the winter season, enjoys a better climate in comparison to other tourist destinations in the beaches of the country, in which it rains with some frequency or the temperatures are lower, both in the air and in the water of the sea, so said the meteorologist of the University Center of the Coast, Víctor Manuel Cornejo López.
In this sense he stressed that due to its geographic location, Puerto Vallarta in the winter “is excellent for tourism, for many it is the best season, because it is no longer so hot and neither does it rain, as occurs with frequency in places like Cancún and Veracruz; here it is better”.
He explained that with the arrival of the cold fronts there are constant climate changes in the coast of the Gulf of Mexico and in the Peninsula of Yucatán, affecting the beach destinations of those regions, including the ones of the Mexican Caribbean.
Cornejo López pointed out that the cold fronts generate “nortes”, that is, strong winds that blow along the Mexican coast of the Gulf of Mexico, during the winter.
In the case of Puerto Vallarta and in general in good part of the Mexican Pacific coast, the Western Sierra Madre and the Pacific Ocean work like shields, they keep the cold from arriving to this region; “if the Sierra wasn't there we would have single digit temperatures”.
In these days, he noted, the maximum temperatures have oscillated around 30 degrees Celsius and the minimum around 19 degrees, with a clear sky during a great part of the day, only a few clouds, but no rains.
In this context and to finalize he expressed that the superficial temperature of the sea in this region is 26 degrees Celsius, excellent for the aquatic activities, whereas in some coastal places of the Gulf of Mexico and of the Mexican Caribbean it is only 24 degrees Celsius, whereas in the southern part of the Peninsula of Baja California (Los Cabos and La Paz) it descends to 22 degrees in the sea and 16 degrees in the air.
