They prevented the construction of a "walker" in the street Francisca Rodríguez, before the null results obtained by earlier projects
A group of residents and business people of the so called Puerto Vallarta's Romantic Zone argued against making the streets that exist in that area of the city and that are intended for vehicular traffic, for pedestrians.
In particular, residents and entrepreneurs-mostly merchants and tenants in the area-were against the "rehabilitation" of the street Francisca Rodriguez, project which involves the completion of a walker in the street, which is currently open to vehicular circulation.
The group disagreed with this project since last weekend and, in particular, neighbors and employers were against making one or more streets of the so called Romantic Zone for pedestrians.
Thus, they prevented the construction of a "walker" in the street Francisca Rodríguez, before the null results obtained by earlier projects and which have left little for the economic activity of this important area of the city.
Residents and merchants argued that making the road Diaz Ordaz for pedestrians, in the boardwalk, has served little or nothing to generate more tourist traffic for the benefit of businesses settled throughout this important tourist strip.
It should be recalled that the works were postponed in the streets of Morelos and Francisca Rodriguez, to the dissatisfaction of the residents and tenants of the center and Romantic Zone, after it had been foreseen that the works would start this Monday, but they were postponed indefinitely.
With this, it became possible to find alternatives to not lose the resources for such works, which, if they would be well considered, would come to benefit this tourist destination and would have the opposite effect if they were carried out in full season and at the end of the year, which-argued residents and businesses-would damage the economy of the tenants of both streets.
The postponement of the works was given before the opposition of the merchants in the Francisca Rodríguez street, in a meeting that took place Friday with city officials, who failed to overcome the resistance from tenants and neighbors.
The merchants agreed to negotiate something of what they claimed to be convinced of "we don't want the street to become pedestrian", since nearly twenty people expressed their rejection of the works to be scheduled at a time of the year in which they hope to recover from the financial setbacks caused by various causes.
Residents and merchants in the Romantic zone argued that while tourists arriving via airplane seek to walk in the streets, it is the local and national visitors who flock to the area with their vehicle and seek for a place to park to get into the restaurants and shops.
It should be noted that initially, the neighbors and tenants had agreed to mount guards to prevent the street from opening and have it occur as on the boardwalk of the city, which was worked on during the morning to avoid the confrontation from citizens; however, they received a commitment from the municipal authorities to not start work until reaching an agreement.
