Seguro Popular carries out a workshop on strategic planning

When initiating the works of the first Strategic Planning Workshop of the Social Protection System in Health, the Dr. Gabriel J. O'Shea Cuevas, National Commissioner of Social Protection in Health, pointed out that one of the priorities of the President Enrique Peña Nieto on the health issue, is to ensure effective, timely and quality access to health services to the over 53 million individuals enrolled in Seguro Popular.

He added that the workshop, which is aimed at holders of State Social Protection Regimes in Health (REPSS), aims to define and structure in a joint manner, the policies that in the subject, will drive the actions of the agency in its charge for the coming years.

Similarly, the National Commissioner of Social Protection in Health, said that 10 years after the creation of the Social Protection System in Health, there is also the objective of improving the living quality of Mexicans who are affiliated to the Seguro Popular.

It was also noted that this exercise will define and unify the concerns and proposals of each REPSS, for the welfare of Seguro Popular affiliates.

Finally, O'Shea Cuevas called for holders of State Social Protection Regimes in Health to participate in strengthening the social protection system and thus contribute to the individual and collective development of the Mexican population.

PROGRAM IN GROWTH

It should be noted that one of the objectives of the Seguro Popular is to provide timely and quality services to its members, for this reason, the National Commissioner of Social Protection in Health, Gabriel J. O'Shea Cuevas recalled that from January to June of this year, the health units that provide services to the agency in charge, have already conducted 42.2 million consultations to the beneficiaries.

He said that the number of accredited health units for CAUSES (Universal Catalog of Health Services) in the January-June period of 2013 amounts to 122 units, and in the period from 2004 to June 2013 there is an advance of 10 thousand 910 from a universe that is susceptible to accreditation of 12 thousand 769 establishments.

He explained that for the operations covered by the Fund for Protection Against Catastrophic Expenditures, so far 739 services have been accredited, and for the XXI Century Program, 315 hospitals have been accredited.

He said that through the Catastrophic Expenses Fund, the total number of validated cases in 2012 to June 30, 2013 amounted to 169 thousand 587, and the ones corresponding to this year, amount to 72 thousand 378 validated cases.

Finally, with reference to the operations covered by the XXI Century Program, it was made known that in the first half of this year, 5 thousand 767 operations have been covered, which accumulates in total to 166 thousand 131 procedures performed from March 2008 to June 2013.
