At present obesity in Mexico is a major health problem among the population, ranking first worldwide among children and second in adults.
This issue was discussed in the XIII National Congress of Medical Residents, which takes place in Puerto Vallarta from September 18 to 21.
In Mexico there are 5.5 million obese people, those most affected are women over the age of 20, followed by men of the same age and children.
It was emphasized that in our country a third of the health budget is spent on addressing this disease
The first factors that trigger this disease are a poor diet, a sedentary lifestyle and a lack of access to nutritious foods. In this regard, Edgar Armando Morales Flores, National Chief Resident and organizer of the Congress, said that this congress will result in a better care for the beneficiaries of ISSSTE.
"Obesity is associated with other causes of mortality such as chronic degenerative diseases, as in the case of diabetes mellitus, hypertension, breast cancer, endometrial cancer, among others.
Therefore this Congress will address obesity from a multidisciplinary approach.
There is a review of the highlights of the disease and its treatment both in the medical branch and in the branch of surgery, in specific the variantica surgery. We will have great speakers who are leaders in the management of the disease", he said.
Within the opening ceremony there was the attendance of the State Delegate of the Seguro Popular of Jalisco, Antonio Cruces Mada, Director of Seguro Popular in the state of Jalisco.
