In the opening ceremony, the Director of Health Regions and Hospitals of the Ministry of Health of Jalisco, Eduardo Covarrubias Iñiguez, said that in the Metropolitan Area of Guadalajara (MAG), from January to July of this year, there were registered, in a preliminary way, 742 deaths from accidents in general, of which 436 (58 percent) were for road mishaps.

Specifically 202 deaths occurred from pedestrian runovers, 155 for collisions and 79 for rollover crashes. The 26 percent (114 incidents) of all traffic accidents were alcohol-related.

For his part, the technical secretary of the National Council for the Prevention of Accidents (CONAPRA), Arturo Cervantes Trejo, said "Jalisco is placed in the 30 per cent higher than the national average in terms of mortality rate from traffic accidents, with a rate of 18.7 deaths per 100 thousand inhabitants, and the national average is 14.4 ".

In Mexico, the coordinator of the Global Road Safety Partnership (GRSP for its acronym in English), Alicia Light Anduaga, explained that in this course there will be training so that in the first few minutes, which are vital, the lifeline is kept and the damage after an injury from external causes is lessened.

In the course they will be instructed to not handle all emergencies in a heterogeneous way, since each requires a specialized intervention. Another reason to be prepared in the first response to a medical emergency are the possible events of multiple victims, as are some of the accidents, especially those of the road.

This training is also supported by the Pan American Health Organization (PAHO) and the State Council for the Prevention of Accidents (CEPAJ) and attendees will have to replicate the information in their agencies in order to get certified as First Responders and thus be recognized by the Mexican Official Norm 237-SSA concerning the regulation of health services.

The course is the first to be held so far this year and is held starting today until next Friday.
