A Responsibility for Everyone.

Until May 2025, Puerto Vallarta maintains a reputation as one of the safest cities in Mexico, although it faces specific security challenges. According to Numbeo data, Puerto Vallarta has a crime rate of 35.23, considered low, and a safety index of 64.77, ranking it among the safest destinations in the country.

The most reported crimes include vandalism, burglaries, and corruption. Although these crimes primarily affect residents, tourists should also remain vigilant, especially in less crowded areas. An increase in violent robberies against pedestrians has been observed over the past four years, representing a growing concern for public safety.

According to the National Urban Public Security Survey (ENSU) by INEGI (National Institute of Statistics and Census), 23% of Puerto Vallarta residents feel unsafe, a figure significantly lower than the national average of 69.9%.

The municipality has been participating in the "Barrios de Paz" program since March 2025, seeking to strengthen community security and promote social peace.

Culture is not a luxury; it is a necessity for peace. Puerto Vallarta, with its artistic and human wealth, can become a beacon of a culture of peace if access, participation, and collective creation are strengthened. Culture plays an essential, profound, and transformative role in building peace in Puerto Vallarta. Not only because it enriches community life, but because it is a bridge for dialogue, identity, and peaceful resistance in the face of violence and exclusion.

Local traditions, such as folklore, mariachi music, indigenous dances, crafts, and popular festivals, remind Vallarta residents of who they are, where they come from, and the values that unite them as a community. Through theater, literature, film, painting, and other artistic expressions, spaces are created where different voices can be heard and understood, fostering respect for diversity.

Cultural workshops, reading circles, dance groups, film clubs, and collective murals offer opportunities for development and expression that distance young people from violent dynamics and give them tools to transform their surroundings. Puerto Vallarta has been the cradle of social, artistic, and popular struggles. Culture helps us not forget the battles won or the injustices experienced, promoting peace with justice and truth.

Street festivals, open-air performances, and exhibitions allow plazas, parks, and seawalls to become living, safe spaces shared by all. From the ancestral knowledge of indigenous peoples to the creativity of the For youth, culture allows for rich and respectful intergenerational coexistence.

Art not only entertains: it also denounces, proposes, and mobilizes. A song, a mural, or a play can touch consciences and pave paths toward true peace.

Ways Vallarta families can generate peace in Puerto Vallarta:

  1. Educate in values

From home, fostering respect, empathy, solidarity, and nonviolent conflict resolution helps develop peaceful and conscious citizens.

     2.Participate in community activities

Getting involved in neighborhood councils, cleanup days, workshops, or cultural activities strengthens the social fabric and reduces violence.

      3. Care for and respect public spaces

A clean, cared-for, and active city promotes safety and well-being. Teaching children not to litter, to respect green areas, and to coexist without damaging the commons is vital.

     4. Listen to youth

Giving adolescents and young people a voice and space at home prevents them from seeking belonging in violent environments. Promoting intergenerational dialogue strengthens family and social harmony.

     5. Report violence

Do not normalize abuse, harassment, or corruption. If a family witnesses or experiences violence, it is essential to seek help or report it to the appropriate authorities.

      6. Support those most in need

Active solidarity, such as sharing food, clothing, or emotional support with those going through difficult times, strengthens peace through social justice.

    7. Avoid spreading rumors or fake news

Getting information from reliable sources and avoiding collective panic helps maintain social calm.

       8. Include everyone

Promoting the inclusion of older people, people with disabilities, Indigenous peoples, the LGBT+ community, and migrants within neighborhoods and family life contributes to a more just society.

       9.  Take care of your emotional health

Supporting the mental health of family members, having open conversations about their feelings, and seeking professional help when needed is key to preventing conflicts.

      10. Lead by example

Adults who act responsibly, honestly, and respectfully inspire young people to do the same. Leading by example is a powerful example.

Puerto Vallarta is a beautiful community that deserves to continue being a space for coexistence, tourism, culture, and a dignified life. Peace is not imposed; it is built day by day, and families are the foundation of this common project.

Puerto Vallarta continues to be a city with low crime rates and a high perception of safety among its residents and visitors. However, it is essential to stay informed and take basic precautions, especially in less-traveled areas. Local initiatives, such as "Barrios de Paz" (Peace Neighborhoods), reflect an ongoing commitment to improving safety and peaceful coexistence.
