The Federal Consumer Protection Bureau (Profeco) imposed a penalty of two million pesos to the company Telefonos de Mexico (Telmex) for misleading advertising of its Broadband "Infinitum Móvil" services.
In response to a complaint received, the agency revised the campaign "Telmex offers 3 Mbps of internet broadband for $ 149.00 per month (including taxes), placing it among the cheapest in the world", and found that the promotion was conditional on the procurement of other services.
The Profeco informed in a statement that with this advertising, Telmex incurred in a violation of Article 32 of the Federal Consumer Protection Law, which prompted the agency to issue an administrative decision imposing a fine in the amount of two million pesos.
In this regard, Profeco reiterated its commitment to protect the rights and the interests of consumers, as well as to require from suppliers their full compliance of the law.
Meanwhile, the owner of the Profeco, Alfredo Castillo Cervantes said in his Twitter account that the fine will subject the company owned by Carlos Slim and added that "advertising requires the supplier to honor what is offered".
Days ago, the official stated that the sole purpose of Profeco is to enforce the law in favor of consumers.
In recent weeks, the agency has imposed sanctions on companies like Inova, McDonald's, Genomma Lab, Bimbo, as well as restaurants, bars, taxi sites, hotels, car rental agencies, airlines and lessors.
