American Legion’s Two Fund Raising Events

2evenPuerto Vallarta, Jal.- With the purpose of raising funds to help a variety of Puerto Vallarta and Bahia de Banderas’ local associations, the Foundation American Legion is inviting the community to participate in two events that will be taking place in the city.

American Legion, an organization who offers community services, made public its invitation to the Chili Cook-Off event on March 14, and to Saint Patrick celebration on March 16.

Dennis Rike, commander of the American Legion Post 14, announced that the Chili Cook –Off has more than 19 different recipes from their great variety of sponsors, including restaurants and people in general. This very popular event will start at 1:00 pm and will go on until 5:00 pm, on March 14 at El Rio BBQ Bar restaurant, in Paso Ancho.

For 200 pesos (about US$13.00) per person you are entitled to ‘all you can eat’ Chili, one order of ribs and fruit juices. The restaurant will also have its regular menu available for the occasion. Tickets may be bought at the restaurant the day of the event, or can be bought ahead of time from any of the organization’s sponsors, or at Steve’s Sports Bar on Basilio Badillo.

Organizations benefiting from the Cook-Off are: Bahia de Banderas Women’s Shelter, youth sports teams, such as Torpedos American Football team; DIF’s “Albergue de Vida Nueva” -shelter home-, and American Legion’s community aid programs.

Doors to the event will open at 1:00 pm. Jalisco’s Mariachi Los Polvitos will be entertaining from 12:30 to 2:00, followed by MikkiProst, Murphy’s DaveWhitty&MattCooke, and ending with Nacho Daddy’s Texas Embassy Blues Band. On Monday, March 16, Saint Patrick’s Day will be celebrated at Murphy’s Irish Pub from 12 noon to 5:00 pm, with live music from 1:00 to 4:30 pm. Raffles and 50/50 will be available. Price is 200 pesos per person and it includes buffet service and two drinks. Buffet includes meat pie, stewed, fish and potatoes, salad, mash potatoes and dessert. Profits from this event will be divided among the American Legion and Puerto Vallarta’s Navy League.

Dennis Rike informed that projects that were assisted during 2013-2014 are:

C.A.I.A.M. Home and Vida Nueva Shelter: paint, electricity repairs and installations. Looking for a Friend Project: repairs, painting, walls restorations and a bench.
School for the hearing-impaired: lights, ventilators, windows locks.

Boca Tomatlan School: Running water, boys and girls bathrooms repairs. Santa Barbara Rehabilitation Clinic: roof repair and painting. San Vicente of Mary and Guamuchil Park: repair of the playground artifacts. Aurora Park: repairs and maintenance.

Plaza Coloso: painting and repairs to the play grounds. Canica Program: roof repair, painting, window replacements and construction of a play ground.
