dgWith over 300 specialists and the necessary infrastructure, Puerto Vallarta has become a reference for hospital and medical care.

Puerto Vallarta offers a wide range of medical and hospital services that are on the level of any city in the country. More than two decades ago, highly specialized medicine arrived in Puerto Vallarta, establishing the basis of current medical practice.

In Puerto Vallarta we have over 300 specialists of all kinds who care for and operate in the various area hospitals, clinics and doctor’s offices. Most of them are certified by national and international accreditation bodies. There are also hundreds of general and family practitioners located in different neighborhoods around town.

Now, if I am one of those people who just began living here, how can I find a doctor who will adequately care for my health needs? A word of mouth recommendation is the best method, but there are also countless magazines and other media outlets that advertise medical services.

Another way to discover the available services is by roaming through Vallarta. The following is a small listing of what you can find, starting with hospital infrastructure and then doctor’s offices.

There are public sector hospitals such as IMSS, the Regional Hospital, the Jalisco Ministry of Health, ISSSTE, and Health Centers; as well as private sector hospitals.

Those who are so entitled can go to the hospital they are affiliated with, as they are wont to do. Those who have medical insurance or have the economic means to pay for private medical care can go to any of the following private hospitals, listed alphabetically: AmeriMed, CMQ Downtown, CMQ Premiere, Medasist, San Javier Marina and San Javier Riviera Nayarit. All these private hospitals have bilingual staff and facilities with all the necessary equipment for care and for performing highly specialized procedures.

On the other hand, there are also maternity and emergency care clinics offering specialty services, such as the Versailles Hospital and Las Palmas Clinic; and in El Pitillal there is the Bethlehem Clinic and San Antonio Sanatorium; as well as the Medic-Air Clinic in Mezcales.

Specialists’ offices can be found in the hospitals themselves and concentrated in medical office buildings on some of our city’s major thoroughfares, such as Los Tules Ave., Francisco Villa Ave., Fco. Medina Ascencio Ave., Fluvial Ave., as well as on Aldaca, Lucerna and Francia Streets in the Versalles neighborhood; on Ecuador and Colombia Streets in the 5 de Diciembre neighborhood, on Basilio Badillo, Jacarandas and Manuel M. Dieguez Streets in the Emiliano Zapata neighborhood, and on Timon Street in the Marina neighborhood.

As you can see, Puerto Vallarta is a cosmopolitan city that has everything you need to handle any health emergency or specialty consultation.

If you are visiting or if you already have lived here for a long time, it is very important that you know the hospital medical infrastructure our region has.
