The Department of Environment and Ecology, through their Department of Education and Environmental Culture invite you to participate in Earth Hour 2014.

Earth Hour is a global initiative of World Wide Fund for Nature (WWF) that promotes, since 2007, concrete actions in benefit of the planet to create awareness about the climate change. Earth Hour consists of turning off lights that are not essential in businesses, government, educational centers and homes.

Earth Hour is a visual reminder that the environmental problems of the world need not overwhelm us. The small things that we do every day will bring us a better future, and together, we can make this change happen. So whether you celebrate this under the light of the stars or candlelight, turn off your lights and show it; what will you do to protect our planet?

In Puerto Vallarta, we will take part in this international initiative, showing our interest in conserving the environment. This year’s Earth Hour will take place on Saturday, March 29th from 8:30 to 9:30, when part of the malecon, Los Muertos Pier, City Hall, the UMA building and most  government agencies will turn off their lights to create awareness.

What can I do?

•    Speak to your children about the importance of protecting our planet and the dangers and consequences of climate change.
•    Find devices that can be unplugged, turned off, or used in save mode (for example: use less paper when printing by using both sides). Turn off computer screens and speakers.
•    Log off and relax. Take an hour to relax, turn off all your screens, leave all remote controls and reflect, read, or have a conversation with your family.
•    Take advantage of this to stargaze and listening to the waves.
•    Participate!

Thank you for your support in creating awareness and reducing the impact that we generate on the planet!
