Dear President Nieto,
We as a publisher, represent the voices of hundreds of thousands of English speaking residents and visitors to the Banderas Bay Region. Not to mention 20 million visitors a year that reside in and visit Mexico.
Many are watching the situation in Tijuana’s El Chaparral with US Marine Andrew Tahmooressi closely. While all intentions were good as the scene unfolded, the end result is that a person is now in jail for an unintentional act. The Mexico border customs officials knew what happened and were resolving it properly. They knew the entrance to the border was unmarked and this had happened before. Then a Mexico military member, not as familiar with the border crossing intervened and the rest is history.
On June 7th, a new sign has been added to the entrance of the border that indicates you are about to cross the border.
Americans, Canadians and many other visitors are silently watching this to see the end result. They come to Vallarta, Cancun, San Miguel de Allende, Los Cabos, Tijuana and many other places in Mexico with visions of relaxing, enjoying vacations, retiring and enjoying the hospitality of our wonderful country.
Silently they fear the "Could This Be Me" scenario... Inadvertently doing something wrong and in a jail in Mexico without much recourse?
President Nieto, if it is within your power, we humbly request for you to use your Presidential Pardon to allow this man to be freed. Instead of being required to spend hundreds of thousands of $'s to defend himself. There is enough evidence now to know what happened.
Sincerely,
Vallarta Today et al
Dear President Nieto,
