For its 70th anniversary, the Cannes Film Festival threw a star-studded celebration which rallied mobs of celebrities and a dozen of previous Palme d’Or winners to commemorate the illustrious French Riviera festival’s birthday.
At the dinner party, Salma Hayek surprised everyone, when she entered with a mariachi band, a traditional Mexico musical expression, to the tune of “Mexico Lindo y Querido.” She brought the band herself at the party to entertain the attendees with a taste of Mexican music.
However, she particularly surprised some big names in cinema who are also Mexican, including Guillermo del Toro, Alfonso Cuarón, Alejandro Iñárritu, Emmanuel Lubezki, Gael García Bernal, and Diego Luna.
Del Toro told Vultur, “It was Salma who brought them. That’s how we always do it. We sang for two hours! I love singing! Salma loves to sing. Gael and Diego love it. Alejandro is really, really good. But Alfonso doesn’t like it so much.”
The luminaries at the party included the former Palme d’Or winners, several of whom have films at this year’s festival, Roman Polanski, David Lynch, Jane Campion, Ken Loach, Bernardo Bertolucci, Michael Haneke, and others.
