A Journey to Guadalajara for Fencers with a Bright Future.

On October 5, the young fencers from the Professional Fencing School Vallarta, led by Jennifer Lobato, embarked on an exciting sporting experience by participating in the First State Fencing Qualifier in Guadalajara, Jalisco. The event, held at the CODE Revolución in the Providencia neighborhood, brought together talented athletes from across the region, where the representatives from Puerto Vallarta demonstrated their dedication and passion for the sport.

The journey began on October 4, when the young fencers departed from Puerto Vallarta to Guadalajara. Excitement filled the air during the trip; the young athletes knew they would face significant challenges but also saw this experience as an opportunity to grow and test their skills. Upon arrival in the city, equipment checks were conducted to ensure everything was in order before the competitions the following day.

On Saturday, October 5, the competitions started early. The first event was the pre-infantile men's sabre, where young Darío Romo García made a lasting impression. Darío fought bravely, winning three bouts in his group and ranking fourth overall. In the elimination phase, he secured a notable victory in his first match, and although he was defeated in the next round, his efforts earned him a well-deserved third place.

Later, the sub-14 men's sabre event took place, featuring Etienne Smith and Mateo Murillo. Both young athletes faced high-level competitors. Etienne, after a challenging start, managed to rank in the general table, winning his first elimination bout before being knocked out in the second round. Mateo also qualified but could not advance past his first elimination match. Despite the results, both showed their tenacity and commitment, finishing among the best in their category.

At the same time, the sub-14 women’s sabre event was underway, with participants Julieta de la Torre, Ibalia Finer, and Sofía Díaz. The three young fencers competed enthusiastically, standing out in several bouts. Sofía and Julieta achieved significant victories in their respective matches, while Ibalia also demonstrated her strong skills, ranking among the top positions. In this category, Sofía Díaz excelled by winning her first elimination match, ultimately securing third place.

In the afternoon, it was time for the sub-19 women’s sabre category, where Julieta de la Torre, Ivana Finner, Sofía Díaz, and Dulce Álvarez participated to gain experience at this level. Although they faced tough opponents and this category was a training experience for them, all the fencers gave their best, using the competition to further refine their skills.

The day concluded with the Open Sabre events, both in the women's and men's divisions. Dulce Álvarez and Regina Montiel competed in the women’s open category, both standing out in several bouts. In the men's division, Marco Polo Solís and Jorge Tovar fought with determination, leaving everything on the piste and earning valuable points for future competitions.

After a long day of competition and learning, the young fencers from Puerto Vallarta returned home, satisfied with their achievements and focused on their next challenge: the First National Fencing Tournament, which will take place on October 15 in Querétaro. This event will be an even greater opportunity to continue growing and proudly representing their school and Puerto Vallarta.

The Professional Fencing School Vallarta continues to establish itself as a breeding ground for talent in this discipline. With each competition, the young fencers not only showcase their skills on the piste but also their ability to overcome challenges and work as a team. Under the guidance of Jennifer Lobato, these athletes have shown they have the potential to excel at the state and national levels.

The road to sporting excellence is not easy, but with the effort and dedication they have shown in every competition, the Vallarta fencers are one step closer to achieving their goals. The First State Qualifier was just the beginning, and without a doubt, they will shine again in Querétaro.
