An Interview with Doctor Jesús Alejandro Godoy Rodríguez

Dr. what is your specialty?

My specialty is reconstructive and cosmetic plastic surgery, I belong to the College of plastic surgeons and the association of plastic surgery in Mexico and I am endorsed by the board of plastic surgery.

Let's talk about the technology that the hospital has?

Amerimed Hospital is the most complete Hospital here in Puerto Vallarta, and also of the Mexican republic, it has the most up to date equipment in the operating room, which allows us to work in a professional way.

As specialists how do you maintain your certification?

We attend national conferences, we have to stay current with our certification and evaluation by the board, a few weeks ago, I attended at conference, the National Congress of Plastic Surgery it was here in PV.

Can you explain to me the main goal of the reconstructive surgery programs?

Yes, of course, sessions are conducted frequently throughout the republic,( Guadalajara, Guanajuato and PV), we as surgeons voluntarily help, patients who meet every six months or every year. And there is support especially in reconstructive surgery, reconstruction of lip palate, or Microtia which is an alteration in the earpiece formation.

Surgery may be required due to burns, hand trauma, or scarring that an alteration has been formed called Synechiae, which favors a retraction of the skin and limitation in movement.

Dr. Medical Tourism is a very fashionable topic here in Vallarta could you explain to us what is it?

It is to provide the medical services for foreign tourists to come and get treatment here in PV. Patients should realize that we have all the technology needed to make the procedures and to deal with any complications or deficiencies. They can recover on the beach here since the patient  will be disabled anyway they may be at home or here watching the sea and obviously the price is going to seem more favorable here in Mexico than in their country of origin.

What is the process to be followed before a surgery?

We have to make a prior evaluation, check the status of the patient, check the pressure and cardio logical evaluation,  if all is well then we proceed. Also the timing will depend on how long we delay the evaluation to see if a patient is a candidate for surgery without running any risk.

Have you performed surgeries on celebrities of Mexico City?

I work in Mexico City, Guadalajara, Puerto Vallarta, and Chetumal these are the four cities where I work and yes I have done reconstructive surgery on singers and also on celebrities in Mexico City, but I will not be able to say their names.

There is a website of surgeons certified in Mexico, (AMCPER website: www.cirugiaplastica.org.mx)  people can check the surgeon who is attending them, If you see the name of the surgeon it means he is certified, the information that appears is truthful it is the product of the board of plastic surgeons and the association is another.

As a plastic surgeon what would you recommend to people to avoid problems?

Looking for plastic surgeon who makes a good evaluation, and a good Laboratory,  will decrease the risks, risks will always exist in a surgery, and if the person is not qualified to make a good evaluation, they are not able to make a good surgery, and if he is not a plastic surgeon then this to increase the risk.

Plastic surgery is treatment before, during and after surgery, before you have to check the laboratory, patient metabolically, a complete cardiology evaluation, during surgery it is a matter of the surgeon performing the procedure and having a trained anesthesiologist, after the surgery, the patient must follow their instructions, the use of the girdle, or certain things necessary for a good evolution, altering one of those three points is what can promote complications.

What kind of surgeries do you perform in your specialty?

Plastic surgery encompasses cosmetic and reconstructive, all reconstructive procedures and aesthetic. An application of Botox, facial filler,  blepharoplasty surgeries, to remove excess eyelid, nose surgery, abdominal liposuction, neck, back, leg, arm, abdominoplasty,(cut the excess skin of the abdomen), a facelift, a filler in the lips to give volume,  everything related to the aesthetic, is the work of a plastic surgeon.

The reconstructive, hand surgery to a burn patient, reconstructive breast surgery on a cancer patient, congenital malformations and palate, Microtia, pavilion or earpiece, when children born with a small or no ear, children born with webbed fingers with six fingers, we remove the sixth finger previously studied to know which is to be removed, hand diseases like carpal tunnel, or anything having to do with the reconstruction.

Message to foreign tourists.

Find the best option, and work with the surgeon who will give you the most confidence, not all patients are candidates for the same procedure, some patients may do liposuction, and others abdominoplasty.
