danish-mothersHundreds of danish mothers made an unusual protest on Monday: they breastfed their babies in front of the municipal government of Copenhague as a way of protest, after the customers of a cafe criticised a mother by saying that breastfeeding in public is unpleasant.

The protest was organized by the mother Trine Maria Larsen with the objective of promoting public breastfeeding. She said that customers of a cafe came to criticise her for it. The woman told the journal Politiken that some of them had compared breastfeeding to "going to the toilet while eating".

Public breastfeeding is something common in nordic countries but Larsen, a Danish bloguer, said that complaints have been increasing against mothers who brestfeed in restaurants and cafes. She organized the act to compel businesses to not prohibit the custom in their premises.

Doctors recommend mothers to breastfeed their children at least for six months.
