The Teatro Vallarta is one of Puerto Vallarta's most iconic cultural venues, and its history is quite interesting because it reflects the city's growth and evolution as a tourist and cultural destination.

How did the idea originate?

The idea of ​​building a world-class theater in Puerto Vallarta arose in the early 2000s, when the destination was already globally recognized as a tourist destination, but lacked a modern, high-quality space to host large-scale national and international shows. There was a clear need for a space that could host professional-level theater productions, concerts, cultural events, and conferences.

At that time, a forward-thinking group of local and national investors saw an opportunity to strengthen the city's cultural offerings. One of the key points was understanding that cultural tourism was beginning to gain significant relevance, and Puerto Vallarta needed a venue on par with other international destinations.

Who participated in its planning?

The project was promoted by regional business leaders, including José Arturo Dávalos Peña (known for other developments) and members of a business group working in real estate and tourism. The architectural planning was carried out by Mexican firms specializing in entertainment venues, although the specific identity of the architects has not been as widely disclosed as for other iconic projects.

The project was designed as a multifunctional theater with a capacity for approximately 900 people, equipped with state-of-the-art sound and lighting equipment. The planning included comfortable seating, a versatile stage, professional dressing rooms, and accessibility for people with disabilities.

How was its construction achieved?

Construction began around 2008, during a period of tourism boom in Vallarta. The location was key: next to Avenida México, in the heart of the city, which ensured good connectivity and accessibility for locals and tourists. More than $10 million was invested in the construction and equipment of the theater, and high-quality materials were used. The builders and developers opted for a simple yet elegant design, with a modern style that contrasts and complements Vallarta's traditional architecture.

The Teatro Vallarta opened in 2010 with the show "Fandango," a first-class production that blended music, dance, and Mexican culture, produced by the company Aztlán Producciones, which performed continuously during the first phase of the theater's existence.

Who are the owners?

As far as is publicly known, the theater is owned by a group of private entrepreneurs, led by Arturo Dávalos Peña and other partners who have been involved in the tourism and cultural development of the region. It is not owned by the government, although it has had agreements with the Vallarta Institute of Culture and other institutions to promote cultural events.

Currently, the theater is independently operated, offering a varied program that includes concerts, plays, film festivals, conferences, and various cultural events. It has hosted important events such as the Puerto Vallarta International Film Festival, the Short Film Festival, and international shows such as Il Divo, Armando Manzanero, and Jesse & Joy, among others.

Teatro Vallarta is owned by Grupo Margi S.A. de C.V., a company dedicated to renting theaters and similar venues. The company specializes in the rental of theaters, stadiums, auditoriums, and similar venues, offering facilities suitable for a variety of cultural and corporate events.

In addition to Teatro Vallarta, Grupo Margi manages other venues such as Mangos Beach Club, located at 109 Uruguay Street, Colonia 5 de Diciembre, Puerto Vallarta, Jalisco, Zip Code 48350. This establishment serves food and beverages in a beach setting. The director of Grupo Margi S.A. de C.V. is Héctor Mata Espinoza, who leads teams with a focus on open communication and feedback-based leadership to achieve established goals.

The theater's history dates back to 1969, when the Ornelas family began construction of the Vallarta cinema. Although construction was temporarily halted to invest in another project, the Bahía cinema, the Vallarta cinema was finally opened in 1973. After closing in 1994, the space was transformed into a theater and reopened in March 2010.

Although detailed information about the current individual owners is not available, it is known that the Ornelas family has been involved in the history and development of the theater.
