Puerto Vallarta is considered to be a friendly city par excellence. We welcome people from all around the world with open arms.
The worldwide LGBT community not only knows our port perfectly well, they have also visited more than once. People come to Puerto Vallarta to rest and enjoy everything this destination has to offer (has in store for them).
One of the most popular places, attracting thousands of visitors, is the island of Rio Cuale.
Full of history and tradition, it has a cultural and traditional route which starts from the beach, where the two waters come together, the rio cuale and the sea. A perfect place to bring life in every way. By slightly stepping out of the way, you can venture out into a place full of vegetation, the first stop is an archaeological Museum, where you will see archaeological items found in the region, which show petroglyphs and vestiges (relics?) from this part of the pacific and also how people used to live in that part of Jalisco.
As we walk through the island route to the mountain, we get to an exhibition from "La Malagua" collective showing important pieces from local artists on a ceramic wall technique through which we get to know the roots of this place.
We proceed on our journey and cross the first bridge that shows us the fauna, which we are fortunate enough to live with every day, iguanas, squirrels and migratory birds coming to the island. And if you are lucky you could see otters as amazing as it seems.
Let's continue the tour, if you are hungry, you can cross over the suspension bridge to get to the traditional market where you will find the best traditional dishes from Vallarta, from shrimp soup, ceviche, zarandeado fish to our special recipe shrimps, everything carefully hygienically prepared.
Let's go back to the same suspension bridge from which you do have to take a picture of you with the Rio Cual in the background, there if you want, you can buy a tuba, a traditional refreshing drink from the region made with coco palm, it is very delicious and helps quench thirst.
The LGBT community is looking for quiet places full of culture and tradition
As we keep walking, we find all sorts of Mexican crafts to remember our time on the Island. We cross the other bridge and the endemic vegetation keeps us company, we find there the big "John Houston" statue, very famous film maker who did here in Puerto Vallarta the movie "Night of the iguana" a cinematographic piece responsible for Puerto Vallarta’s touristic boom, it is considered to be an icon in the region as Elizabeth Taylor main actress in that movie and Richard Burton also lived here for a while. Together they also were characters of a story in Vallarta, which we will tell later.
We continue walking to the cultural center of the island, an area for well known (famous?) artists and beginners; here we can see workshops such as: painting, engraving, sculpture and music, there also is a forum for local artistic and theatrical performances. An inviting space to read and reflect. The LGBT community looks for many similar quiet places full of culture and tradition. A recommended place to make your visit an unforgettable moment full of art.
