Puerto Vallarta, Jal.-Puerto Vallarta is heaven on Earth. Beside its natural beauty, which is recognized throughout the world, it also has a perfect tropical climate almost throughout the year. During this past Holy week the average temperature during the day range\d between 25 and 30 degrees Celsius, during the day; at night was not as warm, temperatures went down to 18 and 22 degrees Celsius.

Puerto Vallarta Tourism Trust reminded tourists visiting our destination that our destination enjoys 322 sunny days a year, a little warm during the day and comfortable at night.  Even during winter time the average temperature during the day is 25 ° c, and at night goes down to 20 ° C.

During spring time, Banderas Bay’s waters maintain a comfortable temperature for vacationers, about 26 ° C warm, ideal for water activities. Without a doubt, spring c qualifies as the best time for many, because it is not very hot and it does not rain y as often as it does during summer.

The geographical location of this tourist destination is ideal for having an enjoyable and unforgettable vacation at any time of the year.  It is located at the same latitude as Hawaii Islands.

During summer, in the months of June to October, temperatures are between 27 ° C and 32 ° C; it is also the rainy months.  It is the warmest time of the year, but it is ideal for sun bathing and outdoor activities.

At this time, the evening rain is in charge of regulating the climate; and thanks to the protection it gets from Bandera’s Bay on one side and the mountain on the other, Puerto Vallarta maintains an excellent climate for everyone to enjoy it.

The destination experiences low temperature from November to February, but it never gets too cold.  Temperature during these months varies between 18 ° C and 25 ° C, ideal for those who come from cities where temperatures, at this same time of the year are below 0 ° degrees.

Puerto Vallarta tropically perfect climate is a unique ingredient that makes a difference in quality for tourists coming to this destination during Holy Week vacation.

MOON

For the third time in two years, stargazers and apocalyptic doomsayers Saturday are getting their fill of unique celestial events with a total lunar eclipse.

Lunar eclipses happen about twice a year when the moon passes directly behind the Earth into its shadow, or umbra. Total lunar eclipses, or "blood moons" are a little more rare.

But what's up with the creepy red glow that gives the lunar event its nickname?

Well, the red color is actually not unlike a sunset, but from the moon's perspective. NASA describes it as "seeing every sunrise and every sunset in the world, all of them, all at once." And that red glow from behind the Earth gets projected onto the moon.

This total lunar eclipse is the third in a series of four appearing every six months, a phenomenon called a "tetrad" – something not particularly rare for this century according to NASA.

While a total lunar eclipse is a fun night sight for skywatchers, for others the oncoming blood moon and tetrad brings something else – tidings of doom.

As CTV News points out, a number of conspiracy sites suggest links between lunar eclipses and major historical events, including the fall of Constantinople and the founding of the State of Israel. In fact, the last blood moon outside this current tetrad occurred when the Red Sox won the World Series in 2004.

But perhaps the biggest proponent for any conspiracy concerning the upcoming blood moons is Pastor John Hagee, who released a book titled "Four Blood Moons: Something Is About to Change in 2013."

In a 2013 interview with Fox News, Hagee emphasized the significance that each blood moon will occur during a Jewish holiday.

"To have a blood moon, and then for those blood moons to be on this exact date, is something that just is beyond coincidental."

All four of this recent set of blood moons are viewable from the U.S., which Hagee claims is further proof of impending doom in America.

The last of the four blood moons in this tetrad will be viewable later this year on September 28.

Christians in the Holy Land and across the world are celebrating Easter, commemorating the day followers believe Jesus was resurrected in Jerusalem 2,000 years ago.

The cavernous Holy Sepulcher church in Jerusalem was packed with worshippers on Sunday. The site is where Christians believe Jesus was crucified, buried and resurrected.

A Mass is expected later in Bethlehem's Nativity Church, built atop the site where Christians believe Jesus was born.

Catholics and others are celebrating Easter whereas Orthodox Christians, who follow a different calendar, were marking Palm Sunday with processions.

At the Vatican, Pope Francis presided over a solemn vigil service Saturday night. In his homily, Francis said the Easter mystery requires the faithful to seek an answer "to the questions which challenge our faith, our fidelity, and our very existence."

Puerto Vallarta Offers LGBT Romance and Charm
Incredible landscapes, enchanting corners, romantic dinner with a perfect sunset and a dream come true honeymoons
Tim Wilson
A native of Seneca, South Carolina, he arrived in Puerto Vallarta in 2008. Since 2010 he has been Editorial Director and owner of GAYPV Magazine.

In the early 1960’s, Puerto Vallarta was a typical Mexican fishing village which burst into prominence fueled by the tempestuous love affair between Elizabeth Taylor and Richard Burton. Hollywood discovered Puerto Vallarta and many creative gay Hollywood elite soon discovered the romance and charm of our city.

You might say the filming of The Night of the Iguana was the first step in making Puerto Vallarta a gay mecca See bit.ly/gaypv024.. Our city offers the LGBT community a truly romantic destination. Think of intimate boutique hotels, quaint inns, and cozy, bed and breakfasts overlooking a tropical, gay beach. Imagine how perfect this setting would be for the celebration of your relationship.

The Sierra Madre Mountains rise from the sea and nearby jungles team with exotic animals and fragrant flowers. Imagine how perfect such a place where would be for your next tropical adventure. Think about candlelight dining overlooking the endless Pacific and imagine the joy you will see in your beloved’s face. It’s all here in Puerto Vallarta, a Mexican gay friendly destination where misty blue mountains, lush jungles, and the endless sea meet. It is no coincidence that the gay area of Puerto Vallarta's old town is called the Romantic Zone. Our cobblestone streets are narrower; massive rubber trees form a canopy over the streets; and scents of bougainvillea and jasmine fill the air.

The setting is intimate Mexican colonial and everything you might wish for is within easy walking distance. Zona Romantica is the center of our LGBT community and home to many full time, LGBT residents. From the Rio Cuale and south to the seahorse at Almar Resort , LGBT life unfolds in one of the most beautiful places on earth. By day, gay life is centered on the beach which stretches from Mantamar to Sapphire Ocean Club.

Our city offers the LGBT community a truly romantic destination.

Watch the pelicans swoop and scoop up lunch and the dolphins and whales (in season) cavort in the bay, while you sip and snack. Relax on the sand and enjoy our gorgeous sunsets which welcome the romance of night.

At night in the Romantic Zone, the city’s twenty-plus gay bars and clubs come alive. (We boast more LGBT action than most large international destinations.) Most of the gay bars in Puerto Vallarta, like Sama, Anónimo, Apaches, and La Margarita, are intimate spaces where it is easy to talk and carry on a conversation. Add the host of clothing shops which cater to our needs; toss in gay and gay-friendly art galleries; and season it with activities such as Diana's Gay and Lesbian Cruise and you will taste the flavors of our LGBT life. Top-up your night with gay cabaret and late night disco clubs like CC Slaughter’s and relish our life which offers something for every LGBT traveler.

Our boutique hotels and bed and breakfasts exemplify the romantic quaintness of Puerto Vallarta. Almost all the LGBT owned properties are less than 25 rooms. Nestled in the lush tropical hills of Amapas overlooking Zona Romantica is Puerto Vallarta’s most luxurious, gay boutique hotel--- Casa Cupula and its fine-dining restaurant, Taste. Constantly rated the top LGBT boutique hotel in Puerto Vallarta, Casa Cupula offers sophisticated lodging for LGBT travelers and friends.

Another LGBT boutique property is Villa Mercedes. The hotel´s colonial Mexican architecture and cubist wall paintings capture the essence of Mexico. The ten-room Villa David, located in the EL Centro zone and just a short walk from Zona Romantica, is another charming property. This hacienda style mansion built around a courtyard with a tiled pool oozes romance. Planted with birds of paradise, orchids, bougainvilleas, and night blooming jasmine, it is a great place to sit and read, play games, talk, or just hold hands.

Although gay weddings are not approved in Puerto Vallarta’s State of Jalisco, civil unions are legal for citizens. Most couples go to Mexico City where gay marriage is legal, and return to Puerto Vallarta for their honeymoons. (See bit.ly/gaypv027). Several beachfront commitment ceremonies have been performed at Si Senor and Blue Chairs. Last year in May, Sapphire Beach Resort hosted a mass, symbolic LGBT commitment ceremony during Vallarta Gay Pride Week (www.vallartapride.com). There are many luxurious villas that are perfect for LGBT ceremonies. You can book Villa Savana or choose a villa from Ron Morgan Properties. Jim Lee Events, the number one wedding planner from Dallas, Texas, operates in Puerto Vallarta and can handle all your details.

If gay marriage were legal in Puerto Vallarta’s State of Jalisco, tourism would increase. LGBTQ couples would have the best of both worlds a wedding ceremony and honeymoon destination, all in one of the most romantic places on earth.

lgbt tim 2

Typically, gay weddings are more intimate than mainstream weddings because their guest lists are smaller. So why would gay marriages be important for tourism in destinations like Puerto Vallarta? For example, gay couples spend three times more on weddings than on commitment ceremonies. Although gay couples do spend less on their weddings than heterosexuals, gay couples spend a lot more on their honeymoons. That means: hotels sell more room nights; restaurants serve more diners; and support services, like flower suppliers, tour companies and travel operators, have more clients.

The most popular months for weddings are June, August, and September.  Mexico is the world´s leading wedding/honeymoon destination. This is a slower season for Puerto Vallarta. If gay marriage were legal in Puerto Vallarta’s State of Jalisco, tourism would increase. LGBTQ couples would have the best of both worlds--- a wedding ceremony and honeymoon destination, all in one of the most romantic places on earth. How intimate would that be!

PUERTO VALLARTA.- Hepatitis is a disease caused by the inflammation of the liver. It can originate because of physiological issues or because of liver problems. Many a times is caused by the abuse of substances such as alcohol.

There are different kinds of hepatitis. They are classified according to its characteristics, as type A, B and C.

Hepatitis type A is an infection that occurs mainly in children and it is transmitted through contact with feces.

"Children can get it when they to go day care or kindergarten; it is contagious more during summer. Feces and high temperatures are the determinants for the occurrence of this disease," said doctor David Pace Cabrales Balderas, who works with the department of Preventive Health of Jalisco’s Health Ministry (SSJ).

He said that polluted waters contaminate food, and ingesting contaminated food can be a mechanism for transmission of the disease.

Type B hepatitis is transmitted by fluids such as blood, saliva, sweat, semen, vaginal fluid, breast milk and tears. "This type of hepatitis is more frequently found in jails. It is very common in prisoners", said the doctor Cabrales Balderas...

Hepatitis C is acquired through blood transfusions, cuts, punctures and normally occurs in people who are in prisons, and those who resort to practices of tattoos and piercings. Individuals undergoing dialysis are also at ris

Signs and symptom

When you have hepatitis you do not feel well, you get the chills, fever, and lack of appetite, nausea, vomiting and diarrhea. Clinically the patient presents a very characteristic mouth scent, more like that of candy, some people knows it as the aroma of apples. Their skin gets yellow and so their eyes.

"In the past, the patient with hepatitis of one of these three types, were isolated and their clothes were washed carefully. Currently, things have not changed much, but now they are supported with hygiene and dietary measures since good nutrition is extremely important. There is no specific treatment. The disease can be prevented through vaccination, which is given to newborn children", said Cabrales Balderas.

PUERTO VALLARTA.- Traditionally the media, especially printed media, has not been too popular as Face book is now. Face book has become a fashion of the social networks, and the favorite for communication and for learning of more than 150 thousand Puerto Vallarta’s citizens.

According to a recent survey by Merkactivos Company, 47% of the Puerto Vallarta frequently check Face book, compared with only 3% that like to use Twitter, and 7% that is regular at YouTube.

This survey, done in Puerto Vallarta between March 2 and 8, tells us that, although 56% Puerto Vallarta’s population have conventional telephone lines at home, 88% have, at least, one cell phone, making this popular social network the main stage where political parties will seek to win votes next April 5.

The impressive growth of social networks in Mexico has motivated the Mexican President to redesign social policies, favoring the use of Face book and Twitter, according to what the Universal journalist, Ciro Gómez Leyva, reported in his daily column.

In contrast, the traditional media is going downward since only 30% of the population buy and use the newspapers as mean of keeping themselves informed.

According to the Merkactivos survey, 44% of people who read newspapers prefer the Meridian, 12% read the Vallarta Opina, a 5% Bay Platform and a 3% the Sun Always Free.

Regarding those that listen to the radio, 27% of Puerto Vallarta population prefers good K Buena, while 17% tune La Patrona, followed by Radio Disney with 6% and the Explosive 590 with only 5%.

Rounding out the preferences as for as radio is concerned: Radio The best 99.9 with 4%, Los 40 Principales with 3%, love 93.7 with 2%, Radio Universidad and 90.3 Mix with 2% and radio Universidad with 1%.

Because of political and commercial interests of the traditional media, the social network Face book is emerging as the best choice for a society that demands more space and places to openly express their needs and ideas.

No matter what, Face book has become the favorite mean of communication for political parties and leading businesses to promote their campaigns, because of its low cost, in comparison to what traditional media charges.

According Face book’s database, there are 140 thousand users that are over 18 years, only in Puerto Vallarta, which favors the political parties because they target people of this age group for their votes.

For a fee of just one thousand pesos per day for three days, Face book guarantees getting the message to a number of between 70,000 and 140,000 users, something that is impossible to do with newspapers, where some companies tend to charge between 10 thousand to 30 pesos for one page advertisement, and their circulation is of no more than one thousand daily newspapers.

All these elements have, in the last few years, radically changed the media scenery in Puerto Vallarta, and Face book has now become the main arena where electoral campaigns will be developed.

However, the inadequate regulation for the internet, existing in Mexico, and the ease with which anyone can falsify information and make it appear as real to tens of thousands of users, makes of Face book a very dangerous

Puerto Vallarta is visited by many national and international tourists, who are attracted by its spectacular location; a Bay considered one of the most beautiful in the world, surrounded by the Western Sierra Madre; which makes of this city, a place blessed by nature.

But if the above mentioned is not enough, this destination has managed to remain a safe city for visitors who enjoy its friendly atmosphere, dominated by the hospitality and warmth of its people. Puerto Vallarta can guarantee a trouble-free stay and the best vacation ever, as thousands of travelers can testify.

National and foreign tourists, who visit this city, confirm that they feel safe; this, according to testimonies collected on the Boardwalk, on the beaches, at the bus station and at the international airport.

A good example of this is the increment that is projected for 2015 in terms of international cruise arrivals. Arturo Mussi Ganem, representative of Carnival Cruises Line in Mexico, says that "Puerto Vallarta is not only a beautiful destination, but is one of the safest in the country, and that, undoubtedly, attracts the interest of travelers".

During their stay, tourists enjoy the multiple activities Puerto Vallarta has to offer. They have the choice to either simply enjoy the great destination of Sun and beaches or choose to stroll along the Boardwalk during the day. At night they can dine at excellent restaurants or enjoy the nightlife with a tour of the top modern clubs along the Paseo Diaz Ordaz.
The guaranteed security that this city has to offer, allows them to carry out any activity, even to perform some extreme sports as the Bungee, or raise their adrenaline slipping in the Canopy nestled in the mountains.

For those who like to visit the villages around Puerto Vallarta, they can do it in a safely manner, going on dirt roads which are the ATVs and sandbox cars’ routes, an activity that more and more visitors choose to do.

No doubt visitors will find something to do during their vacation with confidence and peace of mind. Having such a wide range of activities to choose from, at sea or ashore; day or night, makes of their vacation in Vallarta their best experience ever.

The walks along the Boardwalk, visits to restaurants and bars, practicing sports and aquatic activities, are some of the things that everyone can experience in Puerto Vallarta, whose people are friendly and welcoming. Surely anyone can fall in love with it.

pasitos0415

Yes! Pasitos de Luz received 155,885 pesos!

It was the event of the year thanks to the 520 people who attended and paid 80 pesos at the gate, the 129 people who generously purchased 500 peso patron tickets and all the donors, musicians, volunteers, and staff of El Rio BBQ Bar and Barcelonas Tapas!

The silent auction made a record high 34,000 pesos and 50/50 sales brought in 14,300 pesos. It was our best Riverfest ever and next year promises to be even more exciting. Hold the date: Saturday March 5, 2016!

Thank you to:
• Our attendees for coming in such huge, supportive numbers
• Our patron ticket purchasers for believing in pasitos and giving the extra support
• Our donors for ongoing generosity and affirmation
• Our musicians for sharing their talent and their hearts
• Our community sponsors for your fundraising gifts and ongoing in-kind donations
• Our volunteers for your time and commitment

You make a world of difference!

Pasitos de Luz provides day time care which enables parents to work. The staff and volunteers offer specialized care, medical expertise from doctors on site, therapy, special education, music, dance, art, balanced meals and nutritional aid (some children take over 45 minutes to feed) in a fun, caring, nurturing environment where the children can learn to love and be loved. On a typical day, Pasitos de Luz cares for approximately 40 children. A high was 58 children for a day!

In 2014, Pasitos de Luz had an average of 25 paid staff plus numerous volunteers who offer essentials services for the well being of the children. The largest expense for Pasitos de Luz is staffing and most of the staff work in shifts and are part time. Because of the wide range of disabilities of the children, a low staff to child ratio is essential.

While there are a number of volunteers, two vital roles have been filled on a voluntary basis. Yolanda Sanchez, founder and chief executive officer of Pasitos de Luz does not receive any remuneration from Pasitos de Luz. Her work, from the inception of Pasitos de Luz in 1999, has been a labour of love. She works full time at Pasitos de Luz and has never received any financial compensation for her full time service to the children.

In addition, in 2014, Arturo Ayala, newly appointed director and chief operating officer worked the entire year as a volunteer. Their dedication and commitment to the cause is exemplary. But, it is also recognized that this model is not sustainable. While Yolanda has committed to volunteer her services, it is recognized that a modest salary for a director/chief operating officer will be required in 2015 to ensure the organization can thrive and grow. The chief operating officer is largely responsible for efficient, effective systems and operations and has helped Pasitos to run at cost recovery.

As the spring season is upon us, we look back at all the good that we have received from so many and look forward to continued relationships in the future.

Thank you to all of you - whether you bought Provecho Vallarta decks with 100 pesos going to Pasitos from each deck sold through Pasitos de Luz volunteers or Pasitos supporters, or you came to bingo at Nacho Daddy, attended the Deja New/Pasitos de Luz Fashion Show at River Cafe or joined us at El Rio BBQ Bar for our 4th annual Riverfest. Whether you visited the children, volunteered an hour or a day or regularly, or you brought food or medical supplies, or you made tax deductible donations from Mexico, Canada, US or donated items, and for everything else you do, please know you make a difference for the special children of Pasitos de Luz! Please contact us for more information about one time or monthly donations or visit Pasitos de Luz online.

I'm a fan of tourist spots.

Disneyland? Why not? Eiffel Tower? Go for it. But Puerto Vallarta? Yeesh. I'll write about Puerto Vallarta someday, about how awful it is. But today is not that day.

Today, we'll talk about a village that's a 25-minute boat ride south of Puerto Vallarta along the coast, a tiny place called Yelapa.

The beach looked nice enough. But it was only when the eightseater motorboat, called a pango, pulled up in front of my hotel about a kilometre farther along the coast that I figured the end of my trip might just redeem the rest of it.

Casa Pericos is a four-level, three-room, open-air, lobby-less hotel built on the side of a cliffthat drops right into the water. It was built by Blair Shurteff, the sort of guy you'd get if you taught a cowboy how to relax and make a cocktail, and his boyfriend Shane Hayward, a former physiotherapist.

The steep outdoor stone stairs make it impossible for anyone with significant mobility problems. And if you're a private sort, the open front and occasional unfortunate sight lines from lounge area to toilet, for instance, might upset you. But, this might just be the best deal on the west coast of Mexico. The views are gorgeous and unimpeded even by windows. Water access is immediate, snorkelling gear is free, the fish are plentiful and colourful, and Shurtefftells me humpback whales come within a couple of hundred metres of the rooms during the winter.

But the deal part comes in when you check out: High-season rates range from $150 a night for the two-bed, 500 square foot first level, to $295 for the four bed, two-level penthouse, all of which come with full kitchens and four-poster, solid wood beds imported.

But what really makes Yelapa a place at which you want to spend a week is Yelapa itself, which you get to from Casa Pericos by a narrow but perfectly navigable dirt path.

Though there are 15 hotels, as well as about 35 restaurants in this tiny place. This isn't a resort town so much as a village with visitors.

Yelapa was put on a different sort of tourist's radar after Bob Dylan, Peter Fonda, Dennis Hopper, Jack Nicholson and a few friends rented a house there in the mid-'60s.

The result is a laid-back, up-beat, dropout kind of a vibe that suits the climate and topography of this famous stretch of coastline. Just before I caught my pango back to Puerto Vallarta to catch my flight, I ate breakfast at Cafe Bahia, a few yards from the pango pier. It's run by chef Susan Pasko.

The tamarind Margarita, the Bloody Mary, the eggs Florentine and Benedict, as well as the stuffed French toast with banana and three-berry sauce (I was hungry) all bore the marks of a genuine talent applied to perfecting the crowd-pleasing basics.

Even the coffee showed the sort of un-flashy care and pride that permeates this town.

IF YOU GO

Air Canada, WestJet and Air Transat all fly to Puerto Vallarta from major Canadian airports.

There are no roads from Puerto Vallarta to Yelapa, so you'll need to go by sea. Pangos (water taxis) are rentable from many companies. Try Franco and Felipe's Fishing Tours at 011-52-322-137-3912 or 011-52-322-107-3871, which charges about $12 per person one way.

dengue fever 750x375
:PHOTO:  LUIS MEDINA • NAYARITENLINEA.MX

Puerto Vallarta. - Preventive measures against dengue in municipalities that are most visited during Holy/Easter Week will be tougher during these two weeks. Tepic, Santa María de el Oro and San Blas are the towns where State health services will be working during vacation.

2015 does not look too good. Since February there have been several probable cases of Dengue, according to health records. Keeping under control the proliferation of mosquitoes, requires the support of the whole community. That’s the only way to reduce the occurrence of the disease by 70 percent.

94 confirmed cases of dengue fever were recorded in 2014 only in Tepic. This year, we expect to lower these figures, with all the preventive measure that citizens, state agencies and the municipality are taking, especially during this month of March.

Selena 12

Selena’s death made international headlines and her funeral drew more than 60,000 mourners to Corpus Christi, Texas. Twenty years later, her spirit and influence is still being felt.

Puerto Vallarta, Jal.- The March 31, 1995 shooting death of Selena Quintanilla-Perez shocked Latino music listeners and plunged the community into a mourning that is still felt now, 20 years later.

“People perceived her as a down-to-earth person, everything about her was sincere and honest,” her father Abraham Quintanilla told Fox News Latino in a phone interview recently. “It was not just the talent. People loved her — they loved her singing, her natural talent.”

Selena started singing around the age of 6 — “she had a strong voice, a good ear,” her father said.

As a way to bond with his kids, Quintanilla created a band with Selena, her brother A.B. on the bass and her sister Suzette on the drums.

“It was just a challenge and it worked,” the 76-year-old said. “We had a little trouble to get them interested, but when they learned their first song, that’s when it changed.”

They started playing in the family’s Tex-Mex restaurant in Lake Jackson, Texas, where Selena y los Dinos was born.

“They dreamed, ate and slept music,” Quintanilla said. “I didn’t know (it would be a career), they had the talent and the wheels started rolling.”

Although the male-dominated Tejano music genre pushed back against Selena y los Dinos, the family broke through all the barriers, with Selena eventually taking home the Tejano Music Award for Female Vocalist of the Year — at 15 years old. She would go on to win eight consecutive years.

But it wasn’t until Selena y los Dinos signed with Capitol EMI Latin in 1989 that their status was propelled into the Anglo market.

“It was a thrill,” said Quintanilla.

In 1994, Selena won a Grammy for best Mexican-American album for “Selena Live!” and she seemed poised for mainstream stardom.

But everything stopped in its tracks when the president of the official Selena fan club Yolanda Saldivar shot her to death the following year in a Texas motel.

Selena Quintanilla and Yolanda Saldivar.

Selena was 23 years old and only months away from the release of her first English-language album.

“She only recorded four songs for the album, we had to scramble to fill it with songs she had recorded years before,” Quintanilla said.

Selena’s death made international headlines and her funeral drew more than 60,000 mourners to Corpus Christi.

Twenty years later, her spirit and influence is still being felt.

“It’s beyond what I ever imagined,” her father said. “People still remember Selena, her music and the movie blasted us worldwide.”

Quintanilla said he wanted to do a film about his family because he felt that the world needed to know about his daughter and the family's journey into the music business.

“Selena” was released in 1997, starring veteran actor Edward James Olmos and newcomer Jennifer Lopez.

Lopez, 45, recently spoke to Billboard about playing the now iconic role and Selena’s legacy.

“There is never going to be another Selena,” she said. “And as far as music goes, that’s what’s beautiful about artistry… It’s a special thing that Selena had. That’s why we’re still talking about her 20 years later.”

Lopez, who recalled being moved by Selena's home videos while preparing for the role, said it was the grace with which she handled the business, her life and her humor what made her so special and why she is still loved today.

“Her spirit of loving what she did. Her sense of family. That's the tragedy of everything that happened and why she left such an imprint — because she was gone way too soon,” she said.

Fans make the trek to her hometown of Corpus Christi every year to pay their respects. This year the city is hosting the Fiesta de la Flor in mid-April in her honor.

It will include performances and appearances by A.B. Quintanilla y los Kumbia Kings All Star and Chris Perez (Selena’s widower).

“I wasn’t going to do anything (for the anniversary),” Quintanilla said. “The city approached me to do something and they are doing it all.”

He continued: “Selena has become such an attraction for Corpus Christi. I gave them the OK. It’s going to be more people than what they thought.”

Drinkers will soon find out just how good Guinness is for them.

Diageo, the world’s largest distiller, will disclose alcoholic content and nutritional information per serving for its iconic Irish stout, Smirnoff vodka and Tanqueray gin online and on product packaging as soon as possible, the London-based company said this month.

Diageo, which operates in more than 180 countries, is working with regulators globally and has already gained approval for a label on its products in the United States from the Alcohol and Tobacco Tax and Trade Bureau, the company said.

“Consumers are increasingly discerning about what’s in their glass,” the distiller’s chief executive, Ivan Menezes, said in an e-mailed statement. “We are committed to ensuring our consumers have the best possible information from which to make informed choices.”

In the European Union, alcoholic drinks are exempt from regulations to provide nutritional information on labels, Diageo said.

Other foods must provide the information per 3.5-ounce portion, which Diageo said doesn’t reflect the way alcohol is consumed. It’s working with the EU to establish a standard alcohol unit across the 28 member states.

“This is a hugely positive step,” Ian Duncan, a member of the European Parliament’s environment, public health and food safety committee, said in the statement. It will be a “major improvement on the confusing current system, where there are different measurements of alcohol units across the EU.”

Diageo said it is the first company to voluntarily disclose nutritional information on alcoholic drinks. The move “is a smart one that is out in front of the trend for packaged food and beverage products to disclose more about what is inside the product,” said Kenneth Shea, an analyst at Bloomberg Intelligence in New Jersey.

Puerto Vallarta, Jal. - Representatives of Puerto Vallarta Tourism Trust (Fidetur), and Puerto Vallarta Convention and Visitors Center (OCV), had an intense agenda at their meeting last Tuesday, in the 40th Edition of Mexico Tourism Markets (Tianguis), which took place in Acapulco, Guerrero. At this meeting, among other things, with their counterparts in the Riviera Nayarit, they strengthen their support to commercial advertisement with their partners in United States, Canada and emerging markets: Colombia, Brazil, Peru and Argentina.
