The Growth of Stage Venues in Puerto Vallarta

centro cultural

In 1999, I saw a play for the first time in Puerto Vallarta. “Retablo, Quién Como Dios” (Tableau, Who As God) was the title. Soledad Garcia directed her theater group “Aguila o Sol”. It was presented at the Municipal Library “Ciudades Hermanas” (Sister Cities) located in Parque Hidalgo (this library later moved to colonia Mojoneras). Two important names in local theater were standouts in the cast: Veronica Muñiz and Wally Lobatto.

Fifteen years have now gone by and Puerto Vallarta and its theatre activity have come a long way. Theater infrastructure has grown to the delight of its creators, no matter what the formats, styles and preparation of local theater groups are. Formal and professional theater activity is hindered and slowed down without adequate spaces.

By the year 2000 Puerto Vallarta had the Centro Cultural Cuale and the CECATUR as “formal” venues for the presentation of performances, considered by some as just improvisations, as back then the Cuale auditorium was in bad shape and it was not until 2003 that it was remodeled with a state and municipal budget, as well as money from the National Council for Culture and Arts (CONACULTA).

At about the same time in 2003, the Juan Luis Cifuentes Lemus auditorium of the Centro Universitario de la Costa was built. At the beginning, it presented plays, film festivals and even a classic ballet.

Another space that housed performing arts, approximately between 2003 and 2006, was called L’Opera. It was one of the first independent venues which did everything from present art films to provide spaces for painters, musicians and independent plays.

Performing arts require spaces that are in accordance to the growth of the city.

CASA

Performing Arts Options in Puerto Vallarta

Presently, Puerto Vallarta has the CECATUR auditorium, the Centro Cultural Cuale, The Palm, the Boutique Theatre, Stages, the Juan Luis Cifuentes Lemus auditorium and, in Nuevo Vallarta the NV Stage and Forum just opened. The Tercera Llamada also just opened its doors across from the Macroplaza in Pitillal. Each of these venues offers diverse stage options.

CECATUR Auditorium houses “Cartelera Escenica” which presents different dance, theater and music performances every Friday.

Centro Cultural Cuale offers the works of the Municipal Theater Group directed by Alberto Fabian as well as plays by independent theater groups.

The Palm has cabaret shows in English with well known performers of this genre who are mainly from the United States.

The Boutique Theatre presents plays and musicals in English, which they themselves produce.

Stages, where plays and cabaret shows are performed in English during winter, and some in Spanish, particularly during the summer season.

Juan Luis Cifuentes Lemus Auditorium provides a space for special events which mainly involve the University community directly.

The NV Stage and Forum houses plays, dance and music performances in English.

Tercera Llamada is a place for independent theater groups with intimate productions.

Teatro Vallarta, an important space which underwent a transformation, is now Viva Tequila, an interactive museum project which offers shows. To this day Teatro Vallarta continues offering a space for performances, concerts and plays.

This area is definitely going through a decisive moment regarding performing arts and within the next two years, the results and scope of this increase of activity, will be felt.

Emergency Medical Evacuation From Vallarta

skymed 09 06 2015 An Interview with Aldis Barsketis, founder of WeExpats

Over the years at Vallarta Today we have received many requests for information from our readers about insurance and in particular emergency medical evacuation.

Why Choose to Retire or Vacation in the Riviera Nayarit?

 DSC26461

Why have a permanent or part-time residence in the Riviera Nayarit? Because of its superb climate, first-class facilities, exclusivity and affordability!

The Riviera Nayarit’s lifestyle is ideal for retirement. This is a place where you can relax, but still enjoy an active retirement. In fact, “stress” is a word that simply doesn’t exist around here!

Welcoming community. According to a report by CNN, an estimated 1.2 million US citizens reside permanently in Mexico, mostly concentrated in coastal destinations. One of the many things our permanent residents appreciate about living in the Riviera Nayarit is our community’s warmth and friendliness. In this country, we welcome everyone with open arms: we offer that proverbial breath of fresh air.

Rich culture. The Riviera Nayarit has an incredible blend of cultures, from indigenous societies that have kept their vibrant traditions alive and well to the beautiful colonial gems left by the Spaniards, including churches, government buildings and stately homes that are featured in the pages of architectural magazines everywhere.

Amazing cuisine. Together, the Riviera Nayarit and Puerto Vallarta make up one of the most important gastronomical destinations in Mexico, second only to Mexico City. The food is superb, and the countless restaurants give you the opportunity to sample everything from the simplest of dishes to the delights of haute cuisine. Like to cook? Local markets are filled with fresh produce, meats and seafood, giving you great value for your money.

Excellent healthcare. The Riviera Nayarit offers first-rate care via local bilingual medical professionals, specialists and hospitals. There are also several insurance options available to retirees that can act as a safety net versus the cost of private medical bills.

Stretch your savings. Your savings and investments can go a lot further in the Riviera Nayarit than in the US. This is especially attractive to those on fixed retirement incomes.

Varied accommodations. The Riviera Nayarit offers a magnificent lineup of 4- and 5-Diamond luxury beachfront accommodations, as well as exclusive gated communities.

There’s always something to do! The Riviera Nayarit has world-class spas, six top-notch golf courses, three state-of-the-art marinas, shopping malls and a wide array of things to do on land and sea—even up in the air! There are also planned events and festivals to keep you occupied year round.

Riviera Nayarit Come On Over, The Weather’s Great!

FOTO

Amazing weather is perhaps one of the finest attributes of the Riviera Nayarit. With tropical temperatures hovering at 25°C/77°F, this is undoubtedly one of the best climates from among Mexico’s many beach destinations.

This ocean was made for swimming: the water is perfect, no dipping your toe and running away or having your teeth chatter from cold winds as you do the breaststroke. The water temperature in Banderas Bay averages around 17-30°C/62-86°F, ideal for enjoying any of the watersports on your list.

Unlike other destinations in Mexico—especially those farther north or farther south—the beaches of the Riviera Nayarit are paradisiacal practically all year round, with a climate similar to Hawaii. In fact, they’re on the same latitude! The wet season falls between June and November, with mostly sunny days and romantic rainy nights.

Another plus? You won’t need a wetsuit for surfing! And if you prefer scuba diving, you’ll only need one for a few weeks during the wintertime—and you definitely won’t have to wear a wetsuit for snorkeling!

Sailing buffs will find the breezes and winds blow steadily from March to June; just what they need to keep all sails full.

This is a great destination for family travel: beach-loving kids will enjoy being in and out of the water, because even though the temperature dips a bit in the wintertime, all they’ll need is a light jacket or sweater.

Adults seeking a good game of golf, the challenge of fishing or the lure of birdwatching will find the Riviera Nayarit to be just right year round. It may be a bit hotter during the summer, but nothing a dip in the pool or the ocean can’t make better!

There’s no doubt the Riviera Nayarit has it all: luxury, infrastructure, biodiversity, plenty of activities for everyone and, of course, perfect climate!

puerto vallarta1

Puerto Vallarta, Jal. - Puerto Vallarta-Riviera Nayarit’s Joint Promotion Committee, headed by Brad Hawkins, met this past Wednesday, April 29, with Southwest Airlines executives for the final touches of the new direct daily flight from Orange County, California, to Vallarta-Nayarit International Airport.

The first aircraft will be arriving June 7th; but the welcoming cocktail and press conference will be held on June 19th. There is also a big surprise prepared for that day, intended to let everybody know the quality of the airplanes used by Southwest.

The meeting was held with members of Riviera Nayarit Visitors and Conventions Center, and the Office of Puerto Vallarta Tourism Trust (Fidetur), who have been insisting on these flights for a couple of years. Today, Southwest flights to Vallarta have become a reality.

In addition to the route Orange County - Vallarta, a flight route, Houston -Vallarta has already been confirmed to start October 15, 2015. Now there are talks, and a strong possibility of a direct flight from Denver, starting November 2015.

These new direct flights from the United States to the region, says a lot about the shift in tourism recovery in our region, and of the expectations of major airlines in our destinations.

They got the idea of the Festival as a mean to raise funds for planting and maintaining flowers."They chose the bougainvillea because of its colorfulness and because they bloom within a year and do not need much water."

Price talk about how this year the Festival will be geared towards children. On Saturday, May 2nd from 6:30 in the afternoon in the area of the lighthouse, there will be an exhibit with recycled material and natural flowers as well as free workshops for children and parents on Ecology.

SSJ Provides Comprehensive Care to Children under the Age of Five

87600876

On the occasion of Children’s Day, April 30, Jalisco’s Health Ministry (SSJ) has announced that they will be carrying out ongoing preventive and curative activities and actions, for children under the age of five.

The head of the Department of preventive medicine, Alberto Ocampo Chavarría, informed that a comprehensive care for children’s diseases suggested by the United Nations Children Fund (UNICEF), World Health Organization (WHO) and the Pan American Health Organization (PAHO, is currently in place.

"The integral action of diseases focuses on the overall well-being of children. Children, not only as a health entity, but in his entire environment and in the whole process of care; aiming to reduce both, morbidity and mortality; and also to reduce the disabilities that these diseases may cause to children under the age of five".

Doctor David Paz Cabrales Balderas, Head of preventive medicine, explained that, this plan has been in used on permanent basis and in all health units, since 2002.

"We are no longer just curing the disease, but we are now taking preventive actions to fight all diseases that have made us fall behind on Health issues and have damage our country’s economy,” explained Cabrales Balderas.

During the past 50 years, services in Mexico have improved in a very important way; most of all in the accessibility and the quality of care that is now granted throughout the country.

Facts:

• The main reason for doctor’s visits for children under five years are diarrheal and respiratory infections.

• The SSJ prides itself on having about 586 health centers, which provide care to minors.

Objectives of the comprehensive care program for children and teenagers (PASIA):

To improve the quality of life for everyone less than 20 years of age, using preventive and protective health systems.

To shortened the wait; to achieve fairness, efficiency and excellence in the provision of services, especially children's health services.

To provide advice on identifying clinical prognosis and evaluation, give adequate treatment and guidance to parents on the reasons and results of consultations, as well as to follow up each case.
