Art and Culture for the Community

Rosa Isela Medina is a member of "Ixtapa de mis Amores," a non-profit Civil Association that has been working for 6 years to revive the commercial, cultural, and sports activities in the Ixtapa district of Puerto Vallarta, Jalisco. On October 21st, the Association will celebrate its 7th anniversary and aims to be a driving force for the community.

On Saturday, July 15th, the first Art exhibition for the Ixtapa community was organized, thanks to the efforts of two artists who collaborate in the altruistic group, Rosario Uribe and Mar Rodríguez, both native to Ixtapa and deeply committed to Art and the Community. The exhibition showcased a diverse range of artworks, including canvas paintings, acrylics, watercolors, tiles, papier-mâché creations, "alebrijes" (colorful Mexican folk art sculptures), mechanical sculptures, and more.

The only support they have is the permission granted by COMUDE, which provides them with the space to carry out their various activities. These activities include workshops in English, chess, painting, recycling, and more, which will be held in the Association's offices. Additionally, there will be cooperation from the Army to teach military discipline classes to the children of Ixtapa, thereby supporting the community with even more engaging activities.

The cost of the courses is very affordable, as it includes all necessary materials, with just $350 for the entire workshop. During the summer courses, participants will also have the opportunity to learn first aid skills, martial arts, and acrobatics through the involvement of the "Panteras Negras," a group affiliated with the Mexican Army.

The primary goal of these initiatives is to foster a love for art and culture among the Ixtapa community, providing enriching activities at an accessible cost. The support of all community members and collaboration with local institutions are essential for the success of these proposals, which aim to strengthen social ties and make Ixtapa an even more special place.
