Whale

A 52-foot sperm whale weighing between 30 and 40 tons was found dead on a beach in El Condor, a city in the Patagonian province of Rio Negro, Argentine environmental officials told Efe.

The huge marine mammal was spotted last Friday by a fisherman, who notified marine biologists working in the area, Rio Negro Environment and Sustainable Development Secretariat spokesman Lucas Albornoz said.

The whale beached itself on a stretch of coast surrounded by cliffs some five kilometers (3.1 miles) from a nearby lighthouse, Albornoz said.

Fundacion Cethus biologists have been working to find the cause of the whale's death since Saturday.

Initial indications are that the whale died approximately two weeks ago.

Marine biologists plan to take more samples from the whale and discuss the disposal of the marine mammal's remains with experts, who are expected to arrive on the scene in coming days.

The whale's remains must be removed due to public health concerns, but it is not clear how it will be done, the Environment and Sustainable Development Secretariat said.

Rio Negro officials would like to preserve the whale's skeleton for educational purposes or to display at a museum or school in the southern Argentine region, the secretariat said.

tequila-museumThe new Tequila Museum was announced by Enrique Ramos Flores, Minister of Tourism for the State of Jalisco, who said it will be another expression of Mexican handicraft. The Tequila Museum will be on the premises of the Teatro Vallarta.

Mundo Cuervo, the largest producer of tequila in the country and on other scales at an international level, will create the Tequila Museum at what is now the site of the Teatro Vallarta. The craftsmanship of the State of Jalisco is also intended to be shown there.

Enrique Ramos Flores, Minister of Tourism for Jalisco, said that, “These new activities will add to the interest and dynamism of visitors to the destination.”

While a museum opening date has not been announced, it is known that art exhibitions from Jalisco, as well as Tonalá and Tlaquepaque will be shown there. “We are seeking a place for the artisans to have a permanent exhibition here, because we are sure they will do very well,” said Ramos Flores.

The project that was shown during the past few days, looks ahead to conditioning the Teatro Vallarta spaces, where tequila tasting is expected, as well as other attractions which aim to further attract cruise passengers.

Involved in this project for the city of Puerto Vallarta is the Mundo Cuervo Company, assisted by the Director of Marketing and Public Relations. The Minister of Tourism of Jalisco mentioned, on the other hand, an agreement already signed with the Hotel Association of Guadalajara, which states that the associated facilities would display handicrafts produced in Tlaquepaque and Tonala. "This is something we want to implement in Puerto Vallarta," said Ramos Flores. "In Guadalajara there are many visitors who come for business reasons, but in Vallarta, 95% are leisure tourists and a high percentage of foreigners, so it is sure to have great appeal."

fwWatching the sunset is a favourite Puerto Vallarta pastime and there’s no better place to do it than from Chez Elena. Established in 1954, this vintage Vallarta landmark inn sits high in the hills (Matamoros #520) with arguably the best view of the Bay of Banderas. Climb up to the rooftop El Nido bar and enjoy the setting sun. With luck you might see the green flash— that elusive brief flash of emerald light that sometimes appears just as the sun is sinking into the sea. Even if you don’t see it order a Green Flash, the bar’s signature drink.

MM62523-aGrupo Vidanta – the developer of the Mayan resorts has organized a major coup! In addition to the visiting the Mayan ruins (which is in fact one of the new 7 wonders of the world) , crystal clear snorkeling , and cave and cenote exploring, you will now be able to attend a Cirque du Soleil dinner theater.

The Cirque du Soleil company originates from Canada, but most people think of Las Vegas when they think of this amazing performance. Actually there are many locations with Cirque performances. The most intimate of the 19 venues around the world will open on the Mayan Resort in November and will run shows throughout the year. They will also be the first to combine the performance with a dinner theater. The Vidanta Theater, where the performances will be held, was custom built overlooking a huge cenote (crystal clear pool that is characteristic of the Yucatan peninsula).

It sounds the theatre it will open to the public with Mayan owners perhaps having an inside track. We at MayanRental will certainly be gathering information and will find out how to arrange tickets for our guests.

As for our guests who prefer the Nuevo Vallarta location, don’t give up hope. The huge complex planned in Nuevo for the future may well have a Cirque du Soleil venue if the one in Riviera Maya is as successful as we would imagine it should be. You can sign up for email updates on their Cirque du Soleil website .

Start times are always a little questionable, but with the plan being for November, if you book your stay with us in the Riviera Maya in the Grand Mayan, Grand Bliss, Grand Luxxe or you might even be lucky enough to have us grab you one of the new Spa Tower units next winter, we will hopefully be able to get you in (no promises, though, it’s all very new still!). But hey, there are actually dozens of great alternative activities if we can’t pull it off that we are more than happy to organize for you.

It’s All in The Process

Process art may be a new term to most of us but in the mind of Kyle August Lind it is a lifetime study, and he has lent his hand to the perfection of a method of expression that almost defies explanation.

canadian-television-riviera-nayaritThe BC Outdoors Sport Fishing TV show celebrated its fifth anniversary on the airwaves with a special program focusing on the destination’s different communities, which reached out to over 100 million viewers.

Canada’s BC Outdoors Sport Fishing TV promoted sport fishing and all the different outdoor activities that can take place in the Riviera Nayarit, focusing on several of the destination’s communities.

With this exposure the Riviera Nayarit Convention and Visitors Bureau (CVB) is responding to the Canadian market as the number of tourists from this region is growing continuously. Sport Fishing is part of the Premium tourism segment, a sport that produces important economic benefits.

The video lasts 30 minutes on the aforementioned station; in addition they will also produce an online video for Canadian Traveller, Pacific Yachting, Explore, Environment911 and Paw, Mane & Fin, in order to obtain the most exposure.

Besides informing and teaching the audience about sport fishing, one of the objectives of the program is to attract more people to a sport they consider exciting and easy, as well as explain how to enjoy a better fishing expedition.

The program will be transmitted for the first time in March and will be retransmitted 76 times during the year over 9 different networks in the United States, Canada, Europe and the Caribbean. They will also publish magazine articles.

The sum total of the audiences in the different areas reached by these signals is over 100 million viewers.

This spring marks the fifth year of the BC Outdoors Sport Fishing TV in HD. The eponymous magazine marks its 69th anniversary since its first publication and is considered the ultimate guide for those who love the sport of fishing.

Filming took place from February 12 – 19 in and around the Marina Riviera Nayarit, Sayulita, San Pancho, Punta de Mita and the Marietas Islands.

“It’s been amazing, there’s so much to show that we ran out of time,” said Brad Lisky, part of the production team that visited the destination. “The most exciting part was that no matter where we filmed we ran into Canadians, they were everywhere!”

“It’s hard to choose the best part of this destination, but if I had to pick one thing I think I’d have to say it’s the people: they’re very friendly, they understand the Canadian tourist and they’re always smiling,” he added. “We’d like to extend a special thanks to the Riviera Nayarit for allowing us to spend a few days here; I think our audience is going to love everything they’re going to see about this destination.”
