  • Islas Marietas’ Playa Escondida (Hidden Beach) took 3rd place in Mexico on USA Today’s 10Best List; Sayulita obtained 8th place in Travel + Leisure’s Best Beaches in Mexico.

Some of the world’s most beautiful beaches can be found in Mexico, where there are approximately 450 of them lining its expansive coastlines. Among them: Playa Escondida (Hidden Beach) in the Islas Marietas and the beach at Sayulita, which were recognized as tops in the country in recent popularity lists compiled by USA Today and Travel + Leisure.

“Both USA Today and Travel + Leisure are very prestigious media and together they represent over 30 million impressions within our Natural Market,” said Marc Murphy, Managing Director of the Riviera Nayarit Convention and Visitors Bureau.

After a month of voting by the general public following an announcement made by USA Today for its 10Best list in the category of “Best Mexico Beach,” the iconic Islas Marietas’ Playa Escondida took 3rd place.

Thanks to its astounding natural beauty, Playa Escondida has been among the triggers that have lead to an increase in tourism to the Riviera Nayarit.

Meanwhile, Travel + Leisure journalist Stephanie Wu placed the beach at Sayulita in 8th place among the “best beaches in Mexico” thanks to its variety of shops and restaurants; the great fish tacos, its trendy vibe and the dozens of surfers that ply its waves.

The ex star of the series Two and a Half Men spent a few days at the Four Seasons; actress Perrey Reeves celebrated her honeymoon at Villa La Estancia; Mexican actors Armando Torrea, Natasha Dupeyron and Sofía Sisniega vacationed in Punta Mita.

Popular North American actor and comedian Charlie Sheen, ex lead in the series Two and a Half Men, returned to the Riviera Nayarit to enjoy some much needed R&R, repeating a getaway he took back in 2011.

One of the friends he was with on this trip tagged him in his Twitter pic, where he gives thanks for the nine excellent days they spent at the Four Seasons Resort Punta Mita.

Multifaceted New York actress Perrey Reeves was also spotted this past month in the Rivera Nayarit as she enjoyed her honeymoon at Villa La Estancia in Flamingos, where the idyllic and very romantic sunsets swept her off her feet.

Young Mexican actresses Natasha Dupeyron and Sofía Sisniega also spent a few days of fun in the sun in Punta Mita.

A few weeks ago Mexican actor Armando Torrea took some days off to enjoy The St Regis Punta Mita. He described the Riviera Nayarit in his social media accounts as “delightful.”

All of the celebrities that visited the Riviera Nayarit in June mentioned the Destination in their social media accounts and, in some cases, other types of media as well. Charlie Sheen alone has over 11 million followers just on Twitter.

Degree in Communication Science. Reporter for Vallarta Lifestyles magazine. Actor and presently director of the Dionisio Theater group.

In 1999, I saw a play for the first time in Puerto Vallarta. “Retablo, Quién Como Dios” (Tableau, Who As God) was the title. Soledad Garcia directed her theater group “Aguila o Sol”. It was presented at the Municipal Library “Ciudades Hermanas” (Sister Cities) located in Parque Hidalgo (this library later moved to colonia Mojoneras). Two important names in local theater were standouts in the cast: Veronica Muñiz and Wally Lobatto.

Fifteen years have now gone by and Puerto Vallarta and its theatre activity have come a long way. Theater infrastructure has grown to the delight of its creators, no matter what the formats, styles and preparation of local theater groups are. Formal and professional theater activity is hindered and slowed down without adequate spaces.

By the year 2000 Puerto Vallarta had the Centro Cultural Cuale and the CECATUR as “formal” venues for the presentation of performances, considered by some as just improvisations, as back then the Cuale auditorium was in bad shape and it was not until 2003 that it was remodeled with a state and municipal budget, as well as money from the National Council for Culture and Arts (CONACULTA).

At about the same time in 2003, the Juan Luis Cifuentes Lemus auditorium of the Centro Universitario de la Costa was built. At the beginning, it presented plays, film festivals and even a classic ballet.

Another space that housed performing arts, approximately between 2003 and 2006, was called L’Opera. It was one of the first independent venues which did everything from present art films to provide spaces for painters, musicians and independent plays.

Performing Arts Options in Puerto Vallarta

Presently, Puerto Vallarta has the CECATUR auditorium, the Centro Cultural Cuale, The Palm, the Boutique Theatre, Stages, the Juan Luis Cifuentes Lemus auditorium and, in Nuevo Vallarta the NV Stage and Forum just opened. The Tercera Llamada also just opened its doors across from the Macroplaza in Pitillal. Each of these venues offers diverse stage options.

CECATUR Auditorium houses “Cartelera Escenica” which presents different dance, theater and music performances every Friday.

Centro Cultural Cuale offers the works of the Municipal Theater Group directed by Alberto Fabian as well as plays by independent theater groups.

The Palm has cabaret shows in English with well known performers of this genre who are mainly from the United States.

The Boutique Theatre presents plays and musicals in English, which they themselves produce.

Stages, where plays and cabaret shows are performed in English during winter, and some in Spanish, particularly during the summer season.

Juan Luis Cifuentes Lemus Auditorium provides a space for special events which mainly involve the University community directly.

The NV Stage and Forum houses plays, dance and music performances in English.

Tercera Llamada is a place for independent theater groups with intimate productions.

Teatro Vallarta, an important space which underwent a transformation, is now Viva Tequila, an interactive museum project which offers shows. To this day Teatro Vallarta continues offering a space for performances, concerts and plays.

This area is definitely going through a decisive moment regarding performing arts and within the next two years, the results and scope of this increase of activity, will be felt.

on Sunday, April 12, 2015, in Los Angeles. (Photo by Matt Sayles/Invision)

Sofia Vergara is not a woman to easily mess with. Her “Hot Pursuit” co-star Reese Witherspoon learned it the hard way during filming when she landed in the hospital because of the Colombian bombshell.

“It was a lot of action. It was a lot of me man-handling her and so some funny things,” said Vergara, 44, said Monday on "The Ellen DeGeneres Show."

“We get to make out in the movie. We had a lot of fun.”

Witherspoon, 39, added, “We did a fight sequence – she’s tough man… I might have had to go to the emergency room.”

“I sent her to the emergency room,” Vergara quipped.

The costars revealed the incident caused Witherspoon some internal bleeding, which she thought was a burst appendix.

“I push her and I push her, and I kept telling her, ‘I think I’m pushing you too hard,’ and she was like, ‘No do it real,’” Vergara said. “And I popped her ovary.”

To which Witherspoon responded with, “It’s clearly something that happens in Colombia.”

Fortunately Witherspoon survived her ordeal and she was able to get back to filming.

During their appearance, Vergara also poked fun at her co-star’s attempt to speak in her native language for “Hot Pursuit.” She said it was her favorite part of the film, and that it was “horrible.”

“She wasn’t even nice about it. She was like, ‘This is terrible,’” said Witherspoon, who took two years of Spanish in school and tried really hard for the film. “You sound terrible. And then we saw the whole movie and she goes, ‘You’ve got to do that thing where you speak Spanish because Spanish people, people think that’s so funny.’”

Vergara added, “Because now I understand why I am so funny to the Americans. It’s ridiculous. It was insane. I was ruining all the takes laughing so hard.”

Gwyneth Chris vacation in Puerto Vallarta 645x330
Gwyneth, Chris vacation in Puerto Vallarta

Gwyneth Paltrow and Chris Martin are spending a family vacation together with their kids, Apple and Moses, in Mexico.

“The 42-year-old actress displayed her incredible bikini body in a striking – and very skimpy – two-piece swimsuit,” it added.

Chris Martin has been rumored to be seeing Jennifer Lawrence but that romance seemed to have fizzled out as the two have not been seen together for a few weeks now.
Chris Martin and Jennifer Lawrence were reported to be dating last year after his “conscious uncoupling” from Gwyneth Paltrow. The Coldplay singer and the “Hunger Games” star allegedly split just months after.

They reportedly rekindled their relationship over the New Year after they were spotted trying to go incognito while on a lunch date.
In Touch Weekly, meanwhile, claimed that Kate Hudson has been spending time with Chris Martin.

“Since Kate and Matt Bellamy split last fall, she’s been clingy with Chris, calling him all the time to suggest get-togethers under the guise of setting up play dates for the kids – which is exactly how the beach day and dinner date came to be,” a source told the magazine.

But the magazine added that Jennifer Lawrence and Chris Martin are still allegedly seeing each other. “[Jen’s] not going to just let this happen. She’s invested a lot of time into making this relationship work,” the source, who’s allegedly a friend to the actress, said.

bieber

Puerto Vallarta, Jal.- “The Comedy Central Roast of Justin Bieber” on Monday night was everything you might expect: Vulgar and mean, all to the delight of the hundreds in the crowd excited to see the pop singer get skewered. However, it also had a distinct underlying theme: It’s time for Bieber to grow up.

It’s a moment that arrives for every teen star. Granted, not every crossroads is a public televised roast with dozens of gross sex jokes. But by subjecting himself to the merciless burns from a random assortment of comics and celebs (Kevin Hart, Snoop Dogg, Natasha Leggero, Martha Stewart, etc.), Bieber, now 21, is making a statement. He knows he’s a punch line. Time for them to get it out of their system. And then move on.

Look no further than the last few serious moments of the roast, in which Bieber said he wanted to get serious:

There was really no preparing me for this life. I was thrown into this at 12-years-old and I didn’t really know what I was getting myself into. There’s been moments I’m really proud of, and a lot of moments I look back and I’m pretty disappointed in myself for. But the things that I’ve done really don’t define who I am. I’m a kindhearted person who loves people. And through it all I lost some of my best qualities. For that, I’m sorry. But what I can say is I’m looking forward to being someone that you guys can all look at and be proud of. Someone you can smile at and see some of yourself in. Someone close to me once said “It’s how you rise from a fall that truly defines you as a man.” I’m excited for that challenge and I want to say thank you so much for taking this journey with me and I’m excited for you to see what’s next. Thank you, God, for your grace and for never giving up on me.

Good, clearly-scripted speech: But can everyone actually move on? Let’s review: Bieber has endured one of the rockiest “teen pop star” to “real pop star” roads in recent memory, from arrests to lawsuits to egg-throwing to just generally acting like the worst. It’s not going to be easy for him to repair his image, particularly when people are more used to seeing his name in the headlines than his music. An album is reportedly in the works, though he hasn’t released a new one in nearly three years.

It all started pretty well for the Biebs — in 2007, his mom uploaded a video to YouTube that showed him performing at a local singing competition in Ontario, Canada. Bieber was 12 at the time and the performance went viral. Talent manager Scooter Braun (in the audience at Monday’s roast, of course) spotted the video and signed him soon after with his business partner, R&B superstar Usher. In 2009, Bieber released his first singles “One Time” and “One Less Lonely Girl,” and the following year, his debut album went No. 1.

Things moved quickly after that, with platinum-selling albums and unstoppable momentum. At the same time Bieber’s career was on fire, his fiercely loyal tween fan base grew increasingly intense. Known as “Beliebers,” they followed his every move, YouTube video and tweet. To this day, they will go to Twitter battle with other fan bases, such as rivals One Direction.

As he got richer, older, and even more famous, the problems began, as he got in trouble all over the world. In late 2010 when Bieber was 16, there were reports of an alleged assault against a 12-year-old at a laser tag facility. Then there was a reckless driving charge in summer 2012, right after his third album “Believe” was released, with some more mature themes than his first two albums.

The following year, as the Washington Post’s Reliable Source wrote at the time, “You might be under the hazy impression, based on a drip-drip-drip of ominous headlines, that Justin Bieber has set off on a teen-idol path to destruction.” Was it really that big a deal? There were some troubling reports of Bieber walking shirtless through airports and allegedly attacking his neighbor. He also acquired a pet monkey — and when discovering he didn’t have the right paperwork at a German airport, he just left the monkey there.

So, not great. Things spiraled in 2013 with headline after headline: Marijuana found on a tour bus; a lawsuit for allegedly beating up a paparazzo; charged with defacing a building in Brazil. Bieber’s 2014 kicked off with “felony egging” and an arrest for drag racing and a DUI. That fall, he was arrested again and charged with dangerous driving after crashing an ATV. There was that fight with actor Orlando Bloom. Through it all, he had a public, apparently tortured on-off relationship with Disney star Selena Gomez.

It’s a lot to take in, though the Beliebers (61 million on Twitter) have shown time and again that they will stand by their idol. Though it appears Bieber is ready to be taken more seriously by the masses.

“Seems like only yesterday you were discovered on YouTube. Time flies when you’re a piece of [expletive],” comedian Natasha Leggero told him at the roast.

That was one of the kinder things said about the Biebs during the two-hour show, though he claimed he always dreamed of being roasted. Looking at Bieber’s gleeful expression during the roast, it did seem to have a cathartic effect, as if by reminding everyone by what he’s done, he can get a clean slate. And it actually might be true — after all of the insults heaved his way, what’s left to say?

“I know I’ve been driving recklessly, getting arrested, smoking weed, abandoning monkeys and urinating publicly,” he told the crowd at the end of the night, though reminded everyone the point of the whole event: “I turned a lot of people off over the past few years, but I know I can still turn out good music and turn everything all the around. You have my word I will not end up broken, pathetic, bitter or sitting on a dais of somebody else’s roast.”
