Puerto Vallarta, Jal. - Puerto Vallarta-Riviera Nayarit’s Joint Promotion Committee, headed by Brad Hawkins, met this past Wednesday, April 29, with Southwest Airlines executives for the final touches of the new direct daily flight from Orange County, California, to Vallarta-Nayarit International Airport.

The first aircraft will be arriving June 7th; but the welcoming cocktail and press conference will be held on June 19th. There is also a big surprise prepared for that day, intended to let everybody know the quality of the airplanes used by Southwest.

The meeting was held with members of Riviera Nayarit Visitors and Conventions Center, and the Office of Puerto Vallarta Tourism Trust (Fidetur), who have been insisting on these flights for a couple of years. Today, Southwest flights to Vallarta have become a reality.

In addition to the route Orange County - Vallarta, a flight route, Houston -Vallarta has already been confirmed to start October 15, 2015. Now there are talks, and a strong possibility of a direct flight from Denver, starting November 2015.

These new direct flights from the United States to the region, says a lot about the shift in tourism recovery in our region, and of the expectations of major airlines in our destinations.
