SSJ Provides Comprehensive Care to Children under the Age of Five

On the occasion of Children’s Day, April 30, Jalisco’s Health Ministry (SSJ) has announced that they will be carrying out ongoing preventive and curative activities and actions, for children under the age of five.

The head of the Department of preventive medicine, Alberto Ocampo Chavarría, informed that a comprehensive care for children’s diseases suggested by the United Nations Children Fund (UNICEF), World Health Organization (WHO) and the Pan American Health Organization (PAHO, is currently in place.

"The integral action of diseases focuses on the overall well-being of children. Children, not only as a health entity, but in his entire environment and in the whole process of care; aiming to reduce both, morbidity and mortality; and also to reduce the disabilities that these diseases may cause to children under the age of five".

Doctor David Paz Cabrales Balderas, Head of preventive medicine, explained that, this plan has been in used on permanent basis and in all health units, since 2002.

"We are no longer just curing the disease, but we are now taking preventive actions to fight all diseases that have made us fall behind on Health issues and have damage our country’s economy,” explained Cabrales Balderas.

During the past 50 years, services in Mexico have improved in a very important way; most of all in the accessibility and the quality of care that is now granted throughout the country.

Facts:

• The main reason for doctor’s visits for children under five years are diarrheal and respiratory infections.

• The SSJ prides itself on having about 586 health centers, which provide care to minors.

Objectives of the comprehensive care program for children and teenagers (PASIA):

To improve the quality of life for everyone less than 20 years of age, using preventive and protective health systems.

To shortened the wait; to achieve fairness, efficiency and excellence in the provision of services, especially children's health services.

To provide advice on identifying clinical prognosis and evaluation, give adequate treatment and guidance to parents on the reasons and results of consultations, as well as to follow up each case.
