Lázaro Cárdenas Park: A Heritage of Puerto Vallarta
Lázaro Cárdenas Park is nearly as old as the Municipality of Puerto Vallarta itself, but it began to undergo a transformation in 1970. It went from being an old abandoned structure initially intended as a government office space to becoming a recreational park, featuring the statue of Lázaro Cárdenas, which gave life and a revolutionary identity to this public space.
Later, in 1990, it was renovated with the addition of a kiosk and flower beds. Subsequently, in 2005, an underground parking lot was constructed, gradually turning it into a dominant space for the residents of Old Vallarta.
However, it was in 2017 when the park took an artistic and cultural turn. The marvelous Natasha Moraga decided to embark on her mosaic project on the school's wall on the opposite corner. This led to the mosaics spreading throughout the park, like a natural vine seeking to expand its roots across the entire area. Today, the park is known as "The Tile Park" or "El Parque de los Azulejos."
Currently, our beloved park is utilized by different artists from around the world who showcase their mural mosaic works, creating a spectacular effect. Artists such as "Señor PV" and "Mar Rodríguez," among many other anonymous artists, have left a remarkable legacy for this wonderful public space that is always worth visiting.
