Unveiling Puerto Vallarta's Vibrant Friday Market by the River

For the past two years, the Friday market at Cuale Island has been serving as a bustling marketplace for both local residents and tourists visiting Puerto Vallarta. It has become another cultural "tianguis" in the collective imagination of our town. The word "tianguis" originates from the Nahuatl language, specifically "Tianquiztli," meaning "market."

Centuries ago, long before the arrival of European colonizers and their disruptive practices, ancient Mexico thrived on bartering as the primary method of acquiring goods and services. People utilized cocoa beans as currency or even crafted copper tools that were used as a form of exchange. Those times left behind a cultural legacy that shaped Mexico's cultural identity.

At the Friday Market at Cuale, visitors can immerse themselves in a vibrant array of crafts, specialty foods, clothing, artworks, perfumes, dietary supplements, household items, and souvenirs. What started with just a couple of vendors during the summers has now blossomed into one of the many "Cultural Tianguis" in Puerto Vallarta. These markets not only enrich the municipality's cultural scene but also offer an incredible diversity of products that can only be experienced in Mexico.

You can find the market every Friday from 10 am to 3 pm at the heart of Cuale Island, just before reaching the Artistic Cultural Center and the Cuale River Cultural Center, also known as the "House of the Cats." Explore the vibrant stalls, engage with local artisans, and discover the unique flavors, sights, and sounds that make the Friday Market at Cuale a true cultural gem in Puerto Vallarta.
