Exploring Nature and the Circle of Life Through Art
The artistic journey of Megan Wolf, also known as "Loba Art," began at a young age with a passion for painting and drawing, especially animals. Growing up on a cattle farm surrounded by various animals, she developed a deep connection with their energy. After much studying, Megan pursued her education at the Indianapolis University of Art and Design. This marked a significant change from rural life to the bustling city. However, it was during a vacation in Puerto Vallarta where she fell in love with the land and everything it encompassed. Being deeply connected to the Earth and nature, Megan drew inspiration from this natural environment to create new works of art that reflect the circle of life.
The concept of the circle of life led Megan to explore the four elements: earth, water, air, and now, she finds herself delving into the fire of life. Fire was intentionally left for last as it presents the greatest challenge in terms of capturing its fluidity through paint. Her ultimate goal is to connect individuals who may not have the privilege of being surrounded by nature, lacking access to water or trees, and bring a piece of that natural beauty into their homes through her artwork.
The circle of life carries a message akin to that of a mandala or the wheel of samsara. It represents the cycle of birth, death, and rebirth, recurring endlessly with the same energy. This concept is exemplified by the transformative experience associated with consuming certain mushrooms, where individuals undergo a rebirth in life followed by a metaphorical death. These mushrooms serve as a representation of the circle of life, separating humans, plants, and animals.
The subject matter of Megan's new paintings also draws upon the profound pre-Hispanic culture of Mexico, featuring the cross of the four elements. It's truly incredible! Collaborating with a group of artists at the Vallarta Cultural Center, they organize events centered around the pre-Hispanic elements, including fire ceremonies and rose baths. Among these rituals, there is a ceremony where they burn things that no longer serve them, purifying the energy as they dance and move around the fire, allowing the Earth to work with the plants. Their aim is to connect and educate people about cultivating their own food, encouraging a return to living off the land. In the future, everything will flourish, including larger animals that will inspire Megan to paint bigger canvases. She envisions portraying deer, African animals, and perhaps even elephants. Ultimately, she envisions a grand wall to encompass her circle, containing magical elements born from nature, perpetually flowing. You can find Megan's artwork displayed in the gallery at the Vallarta Cultural Center. Her intention is to help people connect and reconnect with their souls and bodies, allowing them to embrace their natural essence. Megan believes her paintings assist individuals in achieving this by choosing colors that guide them from the physical to the spiritual realm. Her artwork serves as a tool to unlock the depths of their own minds.
