Puerto Vallarta is a wonderful place where it is summer all year round.
Situated on Banderas Bay it is protected from storms by the surrounding mountains and enjoys a tropical climate year round. Unlike many I Mexico’s other resort cities Puerto Vallarta retains its Mexican cultural feel. Before the resorts, it was a thriving village and city supporting mining operations in the Sierras and agriculture.
Today Puerto Vallarta offers everything from high end luxury resorts to quaint Mexican hotels. A traveler can enjoy all inclusive amenities at one of the many resorts or indulge in a vacation villa. If you want more of the local feel, a stay at one of the locally owned hotels will make you feel like you are truly experiencing Mexico. The friendliness and hospitality of the people of Puerto Vallarta is what really makes the difference between this and other resort cities. It is no wonder so many choose to retire and relocate here.
The Hotel Zone, running from the Marina to the north end of the Malecon puts you right in the middle of the city. It boasts a sandy beach and easy access to transportation and all the cities restaurants and attractions.
The Malecon, or boardwalk, runs along the coast from the south end of the hotel zone to Zona Romantica. Along the Malecon you will find lots of shops catering to tours along with restaurants, bars and the downtown plaza. Be sure to check out the amazing sculptures along the Malecon.
At the south end of the Malecon you will find Zona Romantica or Old Town. Here you will find lots of trendy shops, cafes night clubs and restaurants. Boutique hotels are the norm in this area and it attracts a diverse group of visitors and residents. Elizabeth Taylor and Richard Burton once set up homes in this area.
To the north of the Hotel zone is the marina. As expected you will find yachts and fishing boats, a cruise terminal and condos. There is a shopping mall, Walmart and Costco all within walking distance.
Further north in the state of Riveria Nayarit your will find some of the newest resorts located in or near small beach villages. If you are into surfing be sure to visits the beach village of Sayulita.
