An earthquake with a preliminary magnitude of 7.3 degrees was recorded Wednesday morning in Chiapas in southern Mexico,
by the National Seismological Service (SSN).
The movement occurred at 10:35 and was centered about 70 kilometers south of Ciudad Hidalgo, according to SSN.
The effects of the earthquake were felt to Mexico City, where residents evacuated some buildings as precautionary measures
"We just had an earthquake," tweeted the mayor of Mexico City, Marcelo Ebrard.
There are currently no official records of damage or casualties.
